What to buy if not an I/O? Assuming my boat would be sold......

If I were to buy a boat that isn't an I/O, because I want to have a boat that requires less draft, what's the better choice? Jet boat or Outboard? I had a MUCH longer post here, but edited it and will flesh it back out later....but the gist of the question is just this.....what's the better alternative in an area where we have such shallow waters to contend with, as well as the corrosive salt water and no boat lift?

Sorry to hear you sold the 270 SLX. Have fun looking for a new boat. I've heard stories of debris being sucked into jet boats. Don't believe it causes damage but more of a pain in the a$$ and lost time.

Sea Ray was set to come out with a line of jet boats a number of years back. Just about ready to hit the market - we even had some on order about ready to be built. The boats went through complete engineering, testing, designing... a couple models were even built as "showcases". But in the end, they pulled the plug because they weren't happy with the longevity of the jet propulsion system when the boat was left in salt water.

I can't speak for other jetboat manufacturer's, though, in regards to longevity. I do see them as a trade-in every so often - they're fun to mess around with but I've usually been disappointed with the fit and finish and interior durability... and the fuel mileage!

Here you go....jets, 22" draft

Now THOSE can stay in the water full time! VERY beautiful boats, those Hinckleys! There's a 40'er a few cabins down from us in Maine... It always looks so pretty sitting there.

I say OBs are the way to go in regards to salt water... but jets may be better with the draft (although I've heard they can suck up a lot of junk in shallow water). SR continues to expand their OB line, just announcing the new 310 & 350 SLX with outboards. Some of this may be emissions related, but I think a lot has to do with the overall benefits of OBs.
