Boatless - sold Searay 38 Sundancer
Engines
8.1’s
Hi all,

Just thought I would make it official that I have sold my 38. First off it was a very difficult decision to have made as we loved the boat, the lifestyle and especially the friends we made at our marina. The memories we made were priceless and being our first boat it was a hell of a steep learning curve, but we loved every minute of the journey.

Frustratingly, we were finding it difficult to get to the boat as much as we liked because of our busy business, my 12 year old daughters increasing extra curricular activities and her love of skateboarding and swimming all of which were pulling us in different directions on weekends. The tipping point in our decision was the current booming boat market where we sold our boat to an older couple we knew on our jetty at the end of our summer holidays. Upfront they accepted our selling price and the whole process was very quick. Otherwise we may have well kept her.

It’s been said the happiest days of a boaters life are the day you buy the boat and the day you sell it. However, the day we walked off the boat for the last time was an emotional day for us as we were leaving behind nearly seven year journey of memories, friendships and the best lifestyle anyone could ever wish for. For seven years our boat also provided quality family time together as we were an hour away from where we lived, so we were free of distractions and the temptation to drop into the office.

We do intend to buy another boat in around 3 years time, but this time probably from the locally made Riviera or Maritimo flybridge models.

I’ll still continue to check in to see what everyone is up to and assist where I can.

I can truly relate to your comments about walking off the boat the last time.

If it helps, just remember when one door closes, another door opens.

Thanks guys.

Yep might be a struggle to remain boatless for 3 years and will definitely be shafts. I don’t think Maritimo build pod boats anyway as they claim their shaft boats are just as efficient. Possibly a little underpowered compared to the Rivs of the same size but I guess you make up for it on range and better on the hip pocket.

Congrats on the sale jug. You had great posts on the 380 forum. I was envious of how clean the bilge on your boat was. Our new 44 Sedan Bridge is just as spotless! Gives me joy every time I spend quality time in the engine room.

We were very sad after we sold our 380 Sundancer and gave the buyers a no guilt out if they did not want to complete the deal. They wanted it and we were sad every time we went by our slip.

We lucked into our 44...divine intervention!

Good luck!

Glad to hear you got something out of my posts :)

We were in a somewhat similar situation to you in that we had no contract and the deal was done on a handshake with no remorse if neither of us wanted to complete the deal. We were also able to sell the boat for more than we paid nearly 7 years ago which was a plus.

We enjoyed our summer holidays on our boat in some of the best boating weather we have had in years which made it very hard to walk away. As it turned out, it was our hottest summer on record.

Now that our summer is over, Covid restrictions are easing and the Ukraine situation, I am already seeing stocks of boats building up in our market, so I expect prices to have well and truly dropped by the time I am ready to buy again.

Lol, haven’t you spent the last two years trying to buy one :p
Now that’s dam funny there! sorry mrs rob but…
