So I had a honda style inverter generator with remote start that has been sitting in the garage for a few years untouched. decided to make some room for some new wood working equipment so put it up for sale. Guy came out last night and decided to buy it. he then told me his plans which made me question if I should just hand him his money back and refuse to sell it to him. he said it's going on his fishing boat ( I assumed on the bow or a aft deck) noooo.. said he's going to mount it in the engine bay, tap the main fuel tank to feed the generator and "somehow" route the exhaust out the same hole for the main engine. I asked if he was worried about exhaust fumes seeping out or the fact that the generator is air cooled and it may get a little warm down in that engine bay. His response was more or less dismissive "I know what i'm doing so not worried"

OK.. best of luck with that.

if he didn't buy your genny he would just buy another one....his mind was made up....you did what you needed to do by alerting him of the hazards and he chose to dismiss them....you conscious should be clear....

Some of my NJ friends kid me about my "Southernisms"..............

The guy who bought your generator? "You didn't take him to raise." Get the money in cash and the answer is "What generator" when his widow's lawyer calls........ if she survives.

Yowsers....likely not great that you've documented this for all eternity on the interweb should there be a worst case outcome!!! With todays litigious tendencies it certainly seems plausible that you could be named in such a suit.

If a robber can sue the homeowner he's attempting to rob, why not the innocent craigslist seller? Oiy....

crap good point...

There was a guy on our lake that decided to make his boat "electric". He spent a lot of money on motors, drives, switches, etc. He ran it with a generator in the bilge which lasted nearly two weekends! Much as you suspected of your brush with idiocy, it over heated.

That can't end well.

Shit gets hot enough down below to add an air cooled generator to an enclosed space it's going to have a melt down.

I saw this done once. An old fishing boat was converted to a trawler. They put the generator in the main cabin in a box that became a seat. The exhaust was run through the hull. Owner of the boat said generator got hot and he did not use it much.
If you have the original manual it probably says "Use in well ventilated area and not for indoor use". From a legal point I have no idea.
