OK...I've read all the threads on this, and frankly its all clear as mud. My 240SD, with two batteries, a Perko selector switch, and a Blue Seas ACR, sits unused for a couple of weeks at a time and it sounds like a solar trickle charger on marine batteries is a good thing in general, but it can be dangerous to let the batteries overcharge...

Question one...how about something like this-

http://cgi.ebay.com/15-WATT-12V-SOL...in_0?hash=item5ad2e45aec&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

a solar unit packaged with a controller?

Question two...assuming that question one is answered in the affirmative, would you wire it to one battery? The Perko switch (to charge both batteries? The ACR? or get separate ones for each battery?

I can't specifically answer the question, but maybe I can point you in the direction of someone that can.

batterytender.com makes a good product. I think they even have a solar product. Take a look at their website, I seem to recall they have a phone number listed right there. A few years ago, I asked them a similar question and they told me you can charge two batteries at the same time with one of their inexpensive models, but you need to have both batteries already at the same charge level. That was the only info I needed so I didn't ask anything more. Maybe their more expensive models can charge at different rates.

One of the vendors on this site is a battery charger expert. I've seen his posts and he's always been helpful. Maybe you can contact him directly. I think his handle is ProMariner. Maybe you could even do a search for what you're looking for, but put his name in as a search limiter?

Personally, I've looked on and off again for the exact thing you are. But, I never really followed through. Since I already have an onboard charger, it hasn't been high on my priority list. I'd be interested to learn what you find out.

Whichever way you go, my only advice is to buy it from a reputable company. Just in case you have a problem.

I am happy I came across this one.

I like the idea of solar but the results here in the northeast are not great. The other thing I don't care for is where do you store the large panel when not in use. Don't get me wrong solar has its advantages.

Now my opionion on the matter is to use a ProSport 8 which is 2 banks and will keep the batteries charged and ready to go. If you want to order one I will give you a deal as a Sea Ray Owner.

Give me a call if you would like to purchase one.

P.S we also make a maintainer if all you are concerned about is keeping the full charge in your batteries.
