Well it has happened again...the first time in 1977 and again tonight.
My local West Palm Beach weather guy just reported that trained observers have reported snow flurries in Boynton Beach, Ft. Lauderdale and Kendall (South Miami). Palm Beach reported sleet accumulating on cars along Worth Ave in front of Tabu Restaurant.
They are trying to confirm reports of snow showers from Walkers Cay and West End near Freeport in the Bahamas. This happened in '77 as the cold air moved across the warm Gulfstream and created "Lake Effect" snow.
I moved here in 1976 and this is the longest cold spell I have seen in 34 years. We are forecast for 29 tonight after a high of 43 today. We are expecting wind chill readings tonight in the teens.
Look for Citrus and Vegetable prices to skyrocket over the next several weeks.
I have a well insulated home and with Fireplace only (yeah....I have one of those!!!) I have been able to keep it about 65 deg inside. The strip heaters in my central unit are not designed for anything below 50 deg ambient so I don't even bother running it. As you can guess...fire wood is kind of scarce around here so I headed out to the woods with the chain saw...."Country Boy can survive"
Damn global warming...I guess it's time to get on Al's band wagon.
