My snap in carpets are in good shape on the top, but the rubber backing seems to have "dried out" and is coming off. It makes a mess every time I handle the carpets.

I am scared to price new ones from SeaRay.

Has anyone out there put a new backing on them? Any ideas? Thanks

This has to be one of the top 3 questions on this site. Right up there with "should I get gas or diesel engines in my 380?" and "How do I winterize my boat?".

You will find two camps on this here. The first camp will tell you to go buy some goop from Home Depot and brush it on the back of your carpet... Sorta like trying to make chicken salad out of chicken sh*t.

The second camp is centered around the OEM carpet from Sea Ray has a cheap crappy backing on it and you'll just need to get the carpets replaced with a better backing. That's what I did and it is night and day. Go to http://www.snapincarpet.com/ and they'll set you up with a much better quality product and the carpet is a perfect match.

Or you can go the goop route and tell everyone what a great salad you had.

Make a pattern of the carpet and go to home depot or other home supply place and buy some outdoor stuff, easy to replace the edging and grommets... Then you can pick your own colors the Admiral wants. Or, bring your pattern to a tailor shop and have them sew on an edge for about $1/ft... WestMarine has snap kits... Pretty easy mod...
