Noticed at the end of last season my SMXII control would turn on fine but once on for a while would act strange. The display would flicker, buttons would not respond, display would change.

So this season started doing it again. Searched online and found a company that would rebuild the keypad. I was ready to send it in this weekend.

I read a trouble shooting article on their web site and I realized that there were two connections to the control box. One for the control one for the temp sensor.

Even with the keypad acting strangely the unit cycled and ran fine at the set temp. So I got to thinking with all the stuff that was added to the compartment. I pulled it out and found the two wires.

Found one was slightly loose. Secured it to the logic board and let the unit run. Well so far so good. No more issues. Also moved all the stuff out of that locker to avoid the issue again.

Some times it OK to start simple....

For reference - www.flightsystems.com is the web site that rebuilds the keypads.

There's also a procedure for resetting the controller. I don't recall the specifics on it right now because the manual is on the boat. I've had to reset a couple of mine to get them to work right.
