Hello everyone! The starboard engine on my 500 smokes badly when started. It'll smoke for up to ten minutes and gradually clear out. It also seems to be laboring both to the ear and on the tach. It seems to lag about 200 rpm's with equal stick. Oil pressure at idle is only six pounds lower and does coming up while cruising. The engine were both rebuilt recently and have new turbos.

Any suggestions????

Thanks - Jason

Color of the smoke needs to be known to help troubleshoot. Black, White, or Blue?

Given the "laboring" symptom- and if the smoke is black- I'd look at the injectors/injector pump.

I don't see how turbos could be involved since they wouldn't be spooling at idle anyway. Does the engine run properly (no smoke, no overheating, max rpms) once it reaches operating temperature?

I would have a Detroit tech pull the valve covers and do a cylinder kill test to see if you have a bad injector. It is pretty easy to do. He can also check the clearances on the turbo (s)
If the smoke is blue however you may have to put "kits" in it. (that is the nice way to say an in frame rebuild)
