Hi ALL,

Have a Sundancer 48 2007.

Have put in a new filter, but on flushing, still get that smelly sewerage smell.

Any suggestions??

That's odd. At your next pumpout, run lots of water in there and flush it out - do this several times. I always use the appropriately dosed blue chemical after each pumpout. Others say it's not necessary but I believe it helps keep the bilge from developing that slight odor that seems to permeate through the plastic tank.

I had the same problem this summer, what I learned.
It was all about the pump-out, mine was not getting pumped out as good as it should. I now lift the engine hatch so I can see the tank level while pumping, the dock hand said he could pump any tank in 2 min, that was BS. I don't know if there was a clog or what but after about 20min of pumping holding tank was empty, filled half full with water and pumped again, water was almost clear at the end, added treatment.
We were lucky it was a Monday morning, we were the only ones at the dock. I now stay with the pump-out until completed, very proactive. I changed the vent filter and all is well.

Good Point! One suctioning doesn't cut it. After about a minute or so, the pump they use loses its sucking power and you have to close the valve and allow it to develop good suction again. Then repeat the cycle - a couple of times. During the time it takes to get suction going again, run some water into the tank to loosen the swill at the bottom.

As far as what Drifter says, I agree. Supervision of the kid is a necessity. I am not a big fan of ordering up a slipside pumpout during the week. They usually make a mess and don't do a thorough job.

I would just find the holding tank vent filter and replace it. More than likely the holding tank filled up to the point that it overflowed into the charcoal filter and ruined it. Replace the filter and all should be well. We have never used the blue stuff and never had an odor problem.

The orignial poster already changed the filter.
