This weekend I had a couple of "Fault Trim" indications on the Smartcraft while coming on plane. The trim seemed to work fine. Any reason why this could happen?

I've had the same issue several times now. Does anyone know the possible cause of this? I have tried not using the tabs just to see and it still does it.

Smartcraft trim indicator does not have anything to do with the trim tabs. Smartcraft is for the trim position of the sterndrive only. Will need a little more detail for anything else.

I had a bad IAC valve that showed up as a trim fault on the Smartcraft. Maybe Smartcraft isn't so smart after all because once the valve was changed the problem went away.

Go in to cal 2 on your gauge and recalibrate the trim sender. Follow the steps as they show up on the gauge. I usually stop in the down position right when I hear it almost bottom out. Give it a shot.

I recommend you first calibrate the trim on Smartcraft to see if that helps. Your Smartcraft manual will tell you how to do this. It is also entirely possible that the trim sensor (which is mounted on your outdrive) may have a problem. Does your trim guage work properly on your instrument panel as you trim the drive up and down? The other thing you can do once you are underway on the water is bring up the trim indicator in the led panel and watch to see if it is eratic and jumps around even though you are not trimming the drive up or down. If it does jump around, that's probably another sign something may be wrong with the sensor.

I did the calibration and the fault went away. I changed the position of the celery stick on the outdrive and forgot to re-calibrate.

I've noticed for the last couple of weeks that both my 'analog' guage and the smartcraft 'digital' gauge are way off. The outdrive trims up and down just fine but both guages show it as being very high. You think I might have a bad sensor since both guages give an inaccurate reading. I've even noticed that often times when I trim down the guages show a higher reading and vice versa when I trim up.

I've been trimming by sound and feel in the mean time.

On Smartcraft installations the 'analog' gauge is displaying the same data as in the SC5000, VesselView, or SC 1000 tach/speedo lcd displays.

If both displays are pegged up in the 25 position all the time, then there is something wrong either with the trim sender, or the connection of the trim sender to the Smartcraft Harness. If the display moves a little bit try re- calibrating the trim display.

I would have never thought the analog guage was synced with the Smartcraft information. I'll try the recalibration and see what happens. That would certainly be the least expensive option. :smt001
