I think they became popular in use around 2003/2004 model years. If you look at the back of the guage and it is a single plug then it is most likely smart craft. If it is a harness to terminal connection then not.

This is what my Smartcraft gauges look like with the digital display on tachs and speedo but the 4-1s are also smartcraft.

I don't know. I have one gauge that has a digital readout and that is the tach I think it shows the hours. Hopefully will unwrap this weekend, thank yoy
