Smartcraft Gauges suddenly don't read, then suddenly do

For the second time, I have been out cruising on plane, and the gauges all suddenly drop off (no rpm, no volts, pressures, temps, fuel) for just a second, then they return to normal. Engines never stuttered, nothing slows down, and no codes. This has now happened on two separate outings, and it only occurs once.

Seems like I need to check the ground at the instruments, or the smart craft fittings. I've been through most of the boat systems, and this smartcraft system is one of the last that I haven't touched. Have you seen this, where else to check, and what was done to resolve it?

It seems to me that if the Smartcraft network lost power that they would go through a "reboot" and it wouldn't be an instantaneous thing. This irks to me as a loss of data for an instant; but both sides at the same time?? I assume you have a Smartcraft master gauge for the port and another for starboard and the other gauges are operated by those two master gauges. Another thing is the port gauge system power and ground is from the port electrical system and the starboard side from the starboard electrical system. So for both sides to blink at the same time is intriguing. Now if you have a Vessel View and that operates all of the gauges then I suspect issues are developing with the VV.

I have a System View SC5000. Here is where I am thinking to start:

Ah, yes. I would start with the terminating resistors. Then see if that connector and harness you are referencing is clean in good repair. Regardless I think you will find that both starboard and port power is independent all the way to the System View display. Consequently, I'm dubious that is power related. Me thinks you are seeing the beginning of the SC5000 display unit failing. I hope I'm wrong however.....

I’m having a very similar issue. It happens about every other time we us the boat however its only the port side gauges and exactly 6 minutes from startup. Gauges turn off for 3 to 4 seconds then a quick beep sound and turn back on, no motor noises or misfire. I’m hoping to find loose connection or bad ground.

Please keep your findings posted
Thank you

I have a vesselview 7 and am experiencing similar. I've come to the conclusion that my vv7 is on its way out. I have a vv703 on order and hopefully it will be installed inside the next 2 weeks. Stay tuned, I will post if this was my problem.
As @ttmott said, if all your connections seem fine, it may be your SC5000 is on its way out as that drives the smartcraft gauges.
