On a 2006 280DA do the Smartcraft engine instruments backlight work off of the NAV lights switch or only the ignition switch? My NAV switch lights up the NAV lights, stern, switch pad backlights, and compass, but I have no gauge lights. Anyone?

Did you wait till it was dark enough outside?

I can’t say for sure but I’m pretty convinced that the instrument cluster on my 2007 has a light sensor and turns on the backlight when needed.

Thanks Espos4. I did, I was dark outside. I’ve read that the smartcraft lighting is independent from the NAV light switch. But I’ve also read the opposite is true. Wondering if more experienced Sea Ray owners than myself know the answer.

Follow up-

I got back to the dock after dark last week. When I shut the nav and cockpit lights, the gauge lights stayed lit. The gauge lights didn’t go off until I removed the key.

They are definitely on a separate feed from the nav lights.

I just confirmed that they light up when key is on not NAV lights

I no longer have gauges, it’s all on the simrad.

when I had the gauges the backlight lamps came on with the ignition and were dimmable from the multifunction tachometer
