Hi Everyone. I am getting an alarm on my smartcraft "Ambient Temperature ckt HI on my 2005 SeaRay 32DA on the starboard engine. It reduces engine power down to 10%. I have searched here and my manuals and have no clue what is causing it. I found a couple links which suggested it might be the IAC. I had replaced the IAC on the port engine but it was a very specific fault which called the IAC out.

Any suggestions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

The thread is for a different issue but related. I will try to reset the sensors see if that does it. When it says ambient temperature ckt is HI, I assumed it was getting to hot in the bilge causing some issues. Trying to sort out which sensors it is picking it up from, if that makes any sense.

Ambient Temperature ckt HI should not be having any effect on the engine dropping power all the way down to 10%? or did you mean dropped power 10% to 90% from the 100% you should always have when things are running normal? If you're having this issue then chances are something else is causing it. FYI, There are times that the ambient air temperature has an common misconception of being the air intake manifold temperature sensor. A bad air intake manifold temperature sensor would cause power reduction, but it should have it's own fault code number with it that you may see on the smartcraft gauge.

Ambient air temperature is typically the outside air temp. The air sensor is typically found under the dash/helm area and usually looks like the white air temp sensor in the photo below. Like Time To Relax mentioned, performing a sensor detection reset should hopefully solve the issue.

thanks for the response. The only warning alarm that sounded was Ambient temperature CKT HI. She would not let me bring the rpms up beyond idle. It was still running but with reduced power. I reset all the alarms as suggested in the previous post. I did not take it out yet. Just ran it at the dock. I was able to bring it up to 2500 then 3000 in neutral. No alarm. I am not sure that resolved it because earlier in the day I had eliminated the alarm, left the dock and the alarm fired off again, with reduced power. I am wondering if it is the IAC went bad, it acted similar when the IAC went bad last year on the port engine. However when that went happened I did get a specific alarm on the IAC. A little stumped right now. I appreciate the details you sent over.

Probably a dumb question for you. But where is the air intake manifold sensor located?

Boat Tech, I reset the alarms. Took it out for a quick run, ran it slow then hard, brought it up to 4300 rpms all seems good. Very strange, not sure what occurred. I will keep a close watch. I very much appreciate your suggestions. Its a beautiful day in Rhode Island cruising in Narragansett Bay near Newport.
