Hello,

I just purchased a 2004 300 Sundancer with Twin 5.0L's and Bravo 3 drives. The boat is equiped with smart craft gauges. Any help you all can provide on my speedo and trim problems would be appreciated.

First, the speedo does not work at all. I looked under the dash and its all electric. No tube. Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Any ideas on how to fix it?

Second, the boats outdrive trim indicators display the trim level via the smart craft gauges or by traditional gauges. For some reason, the starboard trim gauge (smart craft or traditional gauge) is irratic and reads either all the way up or all the way down regardless where the drive actually is. The port engine trim gauge (smart craft or traditional gaude) works better but intermittantly flashs "trim fault". In both cases, the actual drive it self operates up and down properly, its just not reading correct.

Thanks for your help

Regarding your trim reading issues, you should first try to calibrate the the trim gauge thru your Smartcraft system. Your Smartcraft manual will tell you how to do this. Then if the reading is still erratic, you likely have an issue with the trim sensor on the outdrive itself. I have had continuous issues with my my sensor. One time there was grease on the sensor. Another time something loosened up. Basically I just gave up on it since I trim the boat by feel anyway. On yours I would suggest you have a technician look at it when it is out of the water.

Your speedometer reading could be caused by a couple of different things. First off the water intake hole on the outdrive could be plugged. It is just a small hole to begin with and it might be difficult to clear it in the water but is easy to do on land with a small drill bit or a piece of wire. Or the pitot tube connection might have come off on the drive or if you had the drive serviced recently the technician may not have reconnected it.
