Okay, my lower unit on my 6HP 4-Stroke Tohatsu needs to be changed. I know it is the same motor as the Mercury. I have easy access to Mercury Parts. No good access to Tohatsu Parts - Plus I have Mercury High Performance Gear Lube already.
The spec says:
"You can use any brand of lubricant that has a grade designation of API GL5 SAE 80 or 90 weight. Make sure you do not mix different oil brands or weights."
My question is since mercury does not list their spec on the bottle - is high performance gear lube in this spec. Is that what folks use in their Mercury or what does their Mercury manual suggest in their small outboards?
If the high performance is overkill, that is fine with me, I just don't want to put the wrong stuff in.
