Small Storage Area

I have a searay sundeck 200. In the stern of the boat there is a door allowing you to walk through. Under the doorway there is a small door with a storage area behind it. Has anyone used this storage area? I am always afraid that what ever I put in their will bounce and hit the engine. Is there an intended purpose for this area?

A picture would help.

The only thing I can think of is that you are referring to the fire extinguisher access door. A round cover that you open and discharge a fire extinguisher into the engine area without opening the seat.

I have an '05 Sundeck 200 and I have plenty of stuff crammed in there. It is open to the engine but there is a 1/2 wall that will keep things from sliding into it. There is also a steering cable that runs though, but it's pretty much staitionary.

I think I have a 2 gallon gas can, a plastic bin of ropes and bungees, spare prop, and another bin full of spare parts. I put down a rubber mat so things will slide around less. Not worried about bouncing, since the stern of the boat stays pretty well put even during rough chop.

It's a bit uncomfortable to get to (kneeling over in the small space) so I'd recommend stowing less-than-frequently used stuff in there.

My Sundeck 200 came without that wall, first time i used the boat it looks like something from the engine melted part of one of the bumpers where stored there. I am looking to construct something, if someone can put a picture of how is from factory I will appreciate that. Great storage but completely useless if you dont have that wall.

It's a piece of PVC board anchored with some ~2" long aluminum right-angle brackets:

Further back view, note there is a U shaped cutout for the steering lines, and it runs all the way back to the transom

Thank you very much. Mine has the brackets, I just need to find out a good material like PVC to make that piece, I thought about wood but im not sure. Definetly looks like the same "mechanic" who left the wrench in the bilge area didnt put that piece back lol
