Is this doable? Sr215 and looking at small Honda 2.3 to push me home if ever needed …. Comments appreciated

I don’t know about the swim ladder but I have seen a bracket mounted directly to the platform with a kicker. 2.3 seems like it would be a slow go but I am sure it would be better than not having any propulsion.

YeP. But weight is like 25 lbs so seems easy to put into position wherever doable. if it’s got any push to it I imagine ot could save you a tow. Just don’t want a permanent mount there so thinking out loud of emergency/ temp type mount.

How much is a yearly membership with Boat US or Sea Tow or whatever is in your area? Probably a fraction of an engine... and a membership is a WHOLE lot easier to stow on a small boat. Plus, your boat in tow will go faster than a 2HP engine :) and, it may not make any headway if there's a light wind.

Difference is being in control of a situation vs. being at the mercy of someone else. Heck my insurance covers tows but nobody nearby. We’ve lost boatus around here lately and unless boat or people are in immediate danger, coast guard is telling people to find a tow operator or call a friend. Yes really. I agree 2.5 isn’t much for 3800# boat with passengers.

OK, then I think you either need to do this right, or not at all. What I mean by that is that wrestling with an outboard, trying to put it on some makeshift adapter that you first have to install and then still only having 2HP to push you around probably isn't the best plan. Plus, you still have to carry around a gas and oil filled OB with you - probably down in the cuddy... which isn't a great idea, either.

Install a real OB bracket on the OTHER side of the platform, probably also using a retractable bracket and then put a 9.9 on there. Then either plumb it into your fuel tank with a proper valve and shutoff or keep a portable tank on the platform.

Just as an FYI, a 2hp will not maneuver even a 21' boat in any form of current or wind. Not to mention the drag of the outdrive that will be needed to actually steer the boat if it actually gets moving enough to actually steer it.

No offense, but this is the worst idea I have heard. Although I do understand your dilemma of needing assistance when a breakdown occurs. You would need a much larger engine, like a 6hp to be able to do any kind of maneuvering. But as mentioned by Dennis, a 9.9 would be the best fit.

Electric solves the problem of storing the engine in the cabin. But you're likely looking at about a $11K investment between the 10HP Torqeedo (generally considered the most popular and well known), battery and charger. And you'd likely have a 45-minute-ish run time at full throttle pushing you at no wake speed.

But storage of the engine and battery onboard pretty much takes up all of your cabin space.

With a gas engine, you'd always be able to tap into (siphon) your onboard fuel tank. Especially in a boat like yours where the gas tank is so easily accessible.

I had a 6 hp kicker on a 1987 Wellcraft V20 and it was just about useless in the afternoon wind on Barnegat Bay.

Screaming to make 1 knot if any headway at all, and that was with the Bimini down.

Wtf is wrong with you? nothing better to do than troll and try to antagonize people. Fuck off.

You know I am really tired of the sensitive little baby's that post publicly and just want there post to be the best ever and be told what a great idea. When it's one of the worst idea's going. It stack's right up there with pigs on boats and spotlight on the bow. FO, no sir - that is for you to do!

Don’t forget plywood bow covers.
