As most of you know, I own a small business and have since 1985. I was talking to a friend of mine who is in need of help, he manages a security group at a complex we work at. He was interviewing a person recently when he was advise that that they really needed the job and asked how much was the pay. He starts them at $10 per hour, the person told him that it was not enough and that the State pays them for, 3days of babysitting a week, per child, gives them food assistance,$800 per month, gives they a fuel card for the car, housing assistance (they pay $50 per month and the gov pays the rest) knowing full well he asked if they could work day shift five days a week he was told no, they needed one of the three paid babysitter days to relax and go out with friends! THIS is what your hard earned dollars go for!

Democrats living off of the goverment ***. I am so tired of it. With my taxes That I pay I support about 8 or 9 family's We must vote them out this Nov.

I'v had two younger guys that work for me, tell me they felt they shouldnt go home from work tired. And one of them told me he used to go to bed around 2 am every morning but now he is tired around 10 pm. It just isnt fair that you have to work at work. We need to find a new name for work besides work.

Well... I'm in the same part of the state as you and see the same problem. There are some hard working people out there but they sure are hard to find. Heck, I had a guy the other day (who does not make much money) telling me about his 12-year old and 15-year old's iPhone problems... In amazement I asked how he could afford iPhones for his kids (my kids have to get a job and pay their own cell bills and buy their own phones) and he proceeded to tell me how they got them for free by filling out some forms... sent me through the roof.

We were stood up by two interns for summer positions ($10/hour). Both decided to "travel abroad" for the summer on Mommy and Daddy's nickel instead... We are doing this to our kids ourselves.

"We are doing this to our kids ourselves . . . "

We are letting the Liberal/Socialist educational system do it for us.

I hired a "kid" he was 20, to help out at the shop and possibly train to call on some clients we service. He came highly reccomended by his parents. His father is an official at DOJ his mother worked at the DOE. I met them both and they seemed very kind and highly reccomended their son Collin. He was going to start his 3rd year at UVA in the fall. I started him at $11.75 per hour which is reasonable pay in my opinion. He shows up for work the first day 45 minutes late wearing a hoodie sweatshirt and dirty jeans. I suggested he dress a little nicer and to be on time. We rode together in route to call on our first client and on the 20 minute ride he fell asleep while I was talking to him. When we arrived I asked him if he had a nice nap and he said he was up late driving back from his girlfriends house in Charlottesville! I suggested he try to see her on weekends so he would be fresh for work. After all he said he desperately needed money to pay his car insurance since his parents cut him off. (Red flag!) We entered our clients office space and he proceeded to go to the coffee nouk and fix himself some of our clients coffee. I asked him to wait in the lobby and went to meet with my contact. When I returned he was gone. It was then the company security officer escorted him from within the office space where he was talking to random female employees. He had his hoodie up and with his scruffy beard he looked like the unibomber. That went over like a fart in church with my client who is a government contractor. I expressed my disappointment and told him it wasn't going to work out. He begged me fot another chance and against my better judgement I had him come back. The next day he came in 10 minutes late but dressed more appropriately. I started to talk to him and he wasn't making sense, his pupils were as round as his eyes. I asked him what he was on and he said he had drank cactus juice but it was ok since it wasn't illeagal? Then he said he was ordering some more cactus logs from his friend in CA and he asked me if I wanted to go in on it with him! I told him to get out and not to come back. After he left I called his parents and they asked if there was any way he could keep his job. I explained what had happened and they told me he couldn't keep a job and had been fired from 5 other jobs this summer and was not able to return to UVA in the fall. I thanked them for the heads up and told them their son was headed towards the clink.

It is very difficult to find an english speaking person who is willing to work in my area. There is about 90% entitled brats who are enabled and bailed out repeatedly by their parents. I hired a kid who's parents were from peru but he had citizenship which is a job requirement and he has been doing great. After two weeks of impressive work ethic I gave him a $1 an hour raise. I want to keep this one because he gets stuff done and doesn't insult clients and is timely. Where did we go wrong? I blame IT the internet and a growing sense of entitlement.

I guess I'm a sucker for working hard paying taxes and employing people.

We hired a recovering meth head 2 or 3 years ago. He has 1/2 his check taken away for child support. The best employee we have ever had. He comes to work every day and I think has only missed 2 or 3 days in the time he has worked for us. I think the differance is he is around 45 years old.

I'm losing the best one ever in the next couple of weeks and with no prospects in the works my stress level is maxed out
