I am looking for a reasonable slip in the Fort Lauderdale area for the months of August and September. Anyone know of anything I would appreciate the Info.

Jack

Hey Jack,

Are you looking for a marina or a dock to rent at someone's house?

Barry, It doesn't matter as long as they have power.

Chad, I have called Los Olas since last Thursday and they haven't returned my calls. They were the first ones I thought of as their rates go down in the summer. Plus it's an easy crawl to the Elbow room.

Probably not what you want to hear but if it's only for a few months I'd pay the extra tariff and go to either Las Olas marina or Bahia Mar. That way you can walk to a bunch of places for dinner, you can stay on your boat and your boat will be secure. Both places are minutes out to the Port Everglades cut. If it's behind a house it feels odd parking there and it's awkward if you stay on the boat if that's even allowed. Not to mention somebody jacking with the power or whatever when you're gone. Further, with a boat your size you really should put a diver in the water to survey the bottom and make sure you've got enough depth at very low tide.

I'm very close to Bahia and the Las Olas Marina. I go by them several times per week and if you want me to check on your boat if it's there I will. Good Luck. Tom

Tom - we're all doing Lucaya on 8/6 - 8/10. Can you join us?

Jack - how often will you and your family be able to get over here? Can we start planning some trip?

Randy,

Thanks for the note. I just bought a house so everything seems up in the air for this summer. I'm hoping I can be orgainized enough by the first week of August to go.

I am jumping over to Bimini this weekend with my daughter. I was out 20 miles or so yesterday and it was perfect. Looked like that video you had. Tom

we would love for you to join us. Are you going with the "Fling" group? Wish we could go.

Randy

The "fling thing" indeed. I haven't been to Bimini in ages. It will be interesting to see the new marina we are at. I've heard that Bimini has been very depressed but that's second hand information. Other than that, I'm just anxious to hang out with my daughter and go with the flow.

I almost blew it yesterday, the GPS said I only had 58 minutes to go to reach Bimini....

Tom,
I have stayed at Los Olas before and I like the location. I just can't get them to call me back. I think that is probably where I'll end up.
By the way are you wakeboard or skier. I have a 2000 Ski Natique and ski the course @ 22 off.

I'm a skier and you're a heck of a lot better than I am. 15' off at 34 was as good as it got. I got my bell rung so hard so many times doing that.

Do you want me to stop by the marina tomorrow and ask WTF? It's only about 500 yds from my house. I just drove by there and it looks about 1/2 full. Tom

I would appreciate that. I have been leaving messages since last Thursday. I can't figure out what's going on. I was told the City had something to do with it no wonder it's Screwed up.
As for the skiing we'll have to get together and grip it and rip it.

They are pretty good about answering the radio. I'll hail them tomorrow and if they don't answer I'll just stop buy.

Yeah sure, grip it, rip it and watch my shoulder seperate.

Here you go:

For the Intercoastal Facility- Las Olas Bridge
Dockmaster is Levend Ekendiz lekendiz@fortlauderdale.gov

Off Season is $.90/ft - 15% for monthly or $.77/ft/day
$15 one time power hook up and $.12KWH for 50A

Phone is 954.828.7200

I looked at the schedule and there are some good slips available.

Tom,
Thanks for checking into it for me. I will still be looking around as I don't need it for a while. Los Olas is my go to Marina if I can't find a better deal.

There are some houses with space right across the ICW on Seven Isles too. The going rate seems to be about $10'/month.

They've cleaned up a couple of things at Las Olas marina that were a hassle the last time I checked. First, you can get dockside fueling there to save some money and they issue a parking permit.

Lot's of options. Good luck.

Jack - did you find a spot for that big boat of yours yet? If not, let me know. There were some classifieds in a local boat newspaper for dockage behind houses between Ft. Lauderdale and my place in Lighthouse Point. I can scan/send to you if you want or make a call or two for you.
