So my second offer has been refused and they came back with a very high counter.... I am thinking I will walk away right now.... I don't think they are very serious in selling it.

No repeat of last year! All is good. Working on option #2 right now....

So Option #1 just countered. Broker reduced his commission. Wants me to go up another $500. I previously told the broker that I rescinded my offer as I cannot go higher. 2003 340 "old style" with 8.1's and no electronics except a radio.

And I travelled this weekend to Option #2 and saw a pretty nice 2000 340, same style as above full nav electronics with the 454 Horizon engines and full camper canvas. At a very attractive price.

Hmmm decisions decisions.

$500 is the stumbling block on a purchase of over 50k?

If the boat is nice and they want you to come up I would suggest this. Accept the counter of $500 more but say that if there is anything found on survey that they will fix it no questions asked.

Agreed. $500 is nothing in the scheme of things.

The issue is two fold. 1) Since I had a line I didn't want to cross, I said I was done and was rescinding my offer. We were multiple boat dollars apart. Broker said he understood my position.
I should add that between the broker and the owner, (I found the owners original listing on boattrader.com and we exchanged emails.) I was very clear I had a high limit I did not want to cross and hopefully we could reach an agreement under that limit. We are over that limit.

2) I then travelled 1,000 miles round trip this weekend to look at options #2-4. I really liked option #2.

Differences...
2003 vs 2000 same model style though
8.1 Horizons vs 454 Horizons
No electronics vs GPS chartplotter with radar
Sloped canvas vs square camper canvas
Pushing me above my imposed limit vs a price significant boat dollars less for virtually the same boat.

So I found a boat that I really like and they come back with a close offer ... That's my conundrum

On what little I know about each boat I'd choose option #2. Essentially the same boat with electronics, camper canvas, (big in my world), and less money. All things being equal of course.

Are the electronics on the 2000 "original"?

Just my opinion, but if all things were equal (in this case it appears they are not) I would probably prefer a 2003 with no electronics over a 2000 with 13 year old electronics. You are probably going to want to replace those soon anyway and it may be easier to start from scratch to get exactly what you want.

Obviously, if they are somewhat newer than 2000 that approach wouldnt apply.

I think the 2003 to 2008 is a little different than a 2000. IMHO the 8.1s are better than the 454s, but the bottom line is important $$$. Good luck

Thanks. Actually the model change in 2003 happened mid year so there some 2003 340's out there that are the same hull style as the 2000. This 2003 is one of the old style boats, not the new style like the 2003-2008 boats.
