I just bought a new 2022 SPX190 OB with the 9” Simrad unit. It doesn’t turn on/off with the key. You have to touch the power button on the unit to turn it on and off. I find this rather annoying if you happen to forget to turn it off. Can I wire it to the key switch to at least turn it off? I can’t believe Sea Ray designed it this way.

Download the install manual
My old simrads could be wired to key on

It would be a lot more annoying if it was keyed, in my opinion. Setting routes, updating maps, etc. is best done whilst sitting at the dock sipping a cocktail, key off :)

This should be an easy wiring change. I have a couple Simrad units, and one wire (blue maybe -- going off memory) is how you wire it come on with power.

I have a Simrad NSX that powers right up when you turn on the battery switch. And on another boat, it's a Simrad GO where I didn't connect the blue wire so I have to power it up manually.

Annoying?
Take aft canvas down - 7 zippered panels
Check oil in each engine
Check oil in each gear
Check oil in generator
Verify through-hull cocks and strainers
Pre-heat then start generator and bring up to temp.
Transfer shorepower to generator
Turnoff Dock power and disconnect shorepower cord.
Retrieve shorepower cable secure cablemaster
Turn engine keyswitches on
Remove and stow bridge seat covers - 6 pieces
Turn helm ignition switches to ON and wait until Vessel View boots up.
Verify no faults on Vessel View
Activate bridge NMEA2000 system
Crank and start starboard engine
Crank and start port engine
Check all instruments for oil pressure, voltage, and for running faults
Turn on Garmin MFD's (1 button)
Turn on VHF
Turn on AIS
Turn on Autopilot display
Turn on Maretron systems monitor
Finally turn on stereo system.

Ready to toss lines.....

First world problems - right?

You turn on your stereo last? Questionable order of priorities here, @ttmott . :)

The yellow wire in the 4 conductor power harness can be connected to switched positive in the run position and it will auto start on key on, and will shutdown on key off. You will not be able to turn it off with key on, or turn it on with key off.

my devices are all red/yellow tied to a toggle to come on with one switch and auto boot.

the blue conductor mentioned above should be remote alarm output
