Apologize in advance if this question has been asked... I just purchased a 2010 310 Sundancer that has 5.0L mercs with DTS and vessel view. Last fall the previous owner installed brand new pretty cool Simrad chart plotter. I don't know jack crap about these things, but I am wondering how I can get the simrad to link up the the engine data from vessel view. I've seen posts about needing a NEMA2000 module, and others saying that's not the case. I don't even know where to begin as far as looking..

Thanks everyone,

Chris

I’d imagine you’d need the mercury vessel view link kit and a nmea2000 starter kit
nmea2000 drop cable to Simrad and another cable to vessel view
Your boat being newer than mine not 100% sure
going through this on my 07 340 right now

Yes you'll need a nmea setup as well. The mercury smart craft connects to the link module which outputs to nmea which connects to the mfd and other compatible devices. It's pretty sweet when you get it all working. With dts you should have access to the cruise control functionality in vesselview on the simrad mfd.

With the autopilot linked in as well, I can plot the route into the mfd, set the speed with cruise contr, hit nav and just sit back and monitor.

thanks for the replys. looks like ill start saving my pennies for the vessel view link. Mercury sure seems to be real proud of that little black box. haha.

I got my go9 mfds in this weekend
Everything works except my stock gauges up top
What did you do to make these still work ?
Picture shows rpm’s on screen but nothing on the gauges

Thanks I look into it
Wish mercury would respond to my emails

I have had EXTREMELY good luck calling them. The guys that answer seem to have been there a long time and generally have the answer immediately.

You've got three choices actually:
  • VesselView Link (MultiEngine) - $1k ish, plugs right into your Simrad, has good software integration
  • VesselView Gateway (MultiEngine) + NMEA 2000 starter kit - $450 ish for the gateway, $80 for the starter kit, also plugs right into your Simrad but the deep integration isn't quite as nice (you'll still get engine rpm, fuel burn, everything displayed in virtual gauges, but it's arguably not quite as sexy)
  • And then the best choice of all: if you have the right VesselView unit in place - and you may well do - it's got a NMEA gateway built into it. If it does, you're doing this project for like $80. Check the back of it - if it has a NMEA 2000 socket on it you are golden.
For me it was an easy decision to go the latter route since all I wanted was Ts & Ps, fuel flow, and RPM for both engines on my MFD, and I don't have a VesselView. Since the parts are still arriving I can't tell you how nicely it works yet. I felt like the VV link was a ripoff. In your position I'd just run an NMEA 2k network if I wanted that data on my Simrad, super cheap. I'd not bother with the Link because that would just duplicate the existing VesselView screens on my Simrad.

You can stop reading there, but if you want the nerdy detail and particularly if you're not lucky with option 3:

You need to make sure you have two separate SmartCraft junction boxes under your helm, they should be joined with a CAN harness and a multi engine adapter. This should already be the case on your boat, since it's fairly modern. On the diagram below, you're gonna connect either your Link or your Gateway to where the speedo is in the middle.

Your junction boxes will look a bit like this (hopefully cleaner and maybe the right way up). You'll find them in the helm console, most likely.

The NMEA starter kit thing is basic too, Simrad has one which is pretty cheap: https://www.defender.com/product3.jsp?path=-1|344|2028705|2028882&id=2837254

The NMEA 2000 thing isn't too bad. Here's a very comprehensive guide: https://www.signalfilters.com/images/GARMIN-GPSMAP4008_NMEA2000NetworkFundamentals.pdf

For what you're doing, you need a drop cable, three T connectors, a power cable, and a male and female terminator. That's it. In other words, the contents of that Simrad kit I linked to above.

Oh yeah, edit: Mercruiser support is great. I went through the front door on their website, put in my engine serial number, and had a conversation going with a tech within a couple hours.
