Hello everyone . What's your opinion and experience with Sierra products ? Impellers , gaskets, gear etc.

I've used Sierra products for a number of years on outboards and I/O alike. Never an issue.

No problems with filters, and other simple items.
Two years ago I got a new temp sensor that was sending false readings, returned for another one, same problem. Finally got the genuine Merc part and it worked.

Use mostly Sierra parts on my boat - water pump impellers, dist cap, rotor wires, circulating water pump, even used Sierra bellows and trim senders. I've never had an issue. The only time I could ever tell the difference is with the Alpha I Gen II outdrive gasket set - something about the input yoke o-rings that makes the drive very hard to slide on that last 1", when I use the Mercury OEM kit, slides in just fine. But in hundreds of parts over years and years, that is the only difference I have every noticed.

I use the Merc/Quiksilver parts. On our old boat the shop replaced the bellows with Sierra and after 3 years they were starting to crack. With out current boat I told the shop I wanted the Merc parts and would pay extra. When I picked it up they had told me they went on much easier that Sierras due to pliability and there was minimal price difference so they didn't even charge me any extra. When I replaced the impeller in our old Alpha 1 I used Quicksilver. Not sure what brand the shop put in our current B3 but pretty sure it was Merc

I found raw Sierra water pump impellers are more pliable than OEM. Seem to work OK

I have used sierra impellers in performance boats and the blades will fall off. Me and a few others have had that. Never happened with the mercruiser.

I had a few issues with aftermarket quality and longevity so I went back to OEM and have to say the quality and longevity are better.

I think for some items, aftermarket will be fine and other times not. A friend of mine used to work on the line for oil filters. They were all the same, but once an ord r for white ones were complete, then they made then in yellow, then another color. I just asked Caterpillar how much for an air filter and they wanted $250 each....I talked the the Walker distributor and they wanted $110 each. So do I think Walker is good, Yes. Is it considered aftermarket by Cat, yes. I bought Walker brand.
