side shift stern thruster

Obviously don't know your wife's routine to help you with docking, but I just bought a "Boat Loop" I read about it on another thread on CSR and it's just fantastic! Check it out, if you don't know about them already at: http://theboatloop.com/. It is just so handy to extend and catch a pole or cleat with. I remain on the stern, no need to go on deck, pop it over a pole or cleat while my husband crabs in or uses the bow thruster if needed. Wish I had bought one years ago. I seriously think it will extend, by several years, the boating we can do as it makes docking so much easier for about $110. I recomend everyone to have one from my experience with it. Good luck with the stern thruster.

Richie, we all really don't give a hoot what works or doesn't work or how much money you may or may not spend on a thruster.

We just like reading your posts because of your signature photo! YOU DA MAN!!!

I'm still amazed that SR didn't put counter rotating outboards on that boat. All the CC I see down here with twins are CR and much older. What was the thought process behind that. I'd say they should be CR or that SR just plain screwed up.

The 300 Verado is available in CR. Strange for sure.

Richie, are you positive both engines spin their props the same direction?

Look at the props...they will be opposite pitch and have different part numbers.

woody, you are exactly right! is that my actual marina, cause it looks like it?
about the batteries, i don't know yes. once i get to that point in the install, one of their techs is going to decide based on pix and info i give him. could go either way, but i'm leaning towards dedicated ones for it and hooking them up to my chargers.
and when i did my 100 hour service, i thought the props were identical, but now i'm second guessing myself. i'll check next time i'm at the boat.
and gofirstclass, i recently have wanted to start fishing, and been told more than once to save my time and money and just send the wife walking up and down the docks in a bikini after some fishermen come in, and she'll get all the fish we want.

If I were a betting man I'd say they are CR motors.

Richie89, yes that's your marina. I know what you mean now. It's that very situation that resulted in the first ding on my 280DA. I was a first time transient to a new marina. They sent me down to a situation just like yours. I pivoted the boat in the fairway and was lined up for a easy bow in. As I started in I was slipping away from the dock. Not realizing why I turned in toward it thinking my wife could throw a line to a guy on the dock. That was a mistake, I had actually moved the stern further out along with help from the current. I was crossed up with no way to get my self out and the current took me into a steel bulkhead. I was told after that is why slips in that corner are for transients, cause the regulars won't take them.

in some of the conditions it's not that bad. but when there's a westerly wind pushing hard on my starboard side on exit, i have to make the maneuver very quickly before i'm blown into those boats lined up on my port side. sometimes the wind is blowing so hard it's about impossible. and i don't like rushing anything that close to other boats. after my install, in heavy winds, i plan on idling in reverse, immediately laying on my bow and stern thrusters to starboard, and then being able to get the bow heading out crabbing into whatever way the current is in the tide. really hoping this takes the stress out of it. if not, i told my wife i'm just gonna have to buy all those slips to my port side and keep them empty so i can get in and out SMH.

Might even catch a fisherman too.

Just don't send her out to catch crabs....
Good luck with the thruster. If you get a sideshift and have any questions on the install let me know. I installed mine in a day with minimal hiccups.

got mine in the mail today! it looks great and even more solid than i was expecting. craig, what did you think the most challenging part of the install was?

My old eyes may be deceiving me, but looking at the pictures of your boat in the 370 Venture thread, I am pretty sure you do have CR engines. Your starboard engine appears to spin clockwise, and your port spins counterclockwise.

I purchased a stern thruster from yacht controller last year. Was less than 5K and really helps me as I run the boat alone. It's works very well small thru hull opening and easy install

I would say you are correct sir.

I am looking at that photo, will each lower unit interfere with water flow out of the thruster?

Would love to pics from aft of the boat and side view after its mounted.

Good luck with it,

The most difficult part for me was drilling into the hull. Really it wasn't difficult but rather nerve racking. I measured at least ten times before I got the courage to pull the trigger. This is less of an issue mounting on the transom as most angles are close to 90 and the bracket is completely different. Also they gave me these nut inserts that you epoxy into the hull and it secures your main mounting bracket. They provide these rather than thru-bolting due to access. On my boat I could not see or reach the back of the holes at all. These inserts failed after one year, which very well could have been my own fault when mixing the resin and hardener. I suspect this will be a nonissue for you as well as you will likely have access to thru-bolt. Ultimately that is what I did. I fished a bolt through the hole using a wire leader, took my dremal and slotted the end of the bolt so I could get a screwdriver in there to hold in place and then I torqued the locknut from outside. It's perfect now.
Everything else is fairly straightforward. Fishing of wires can be a challenge depending on your boat. The joystick will likely be your biggest challenge considering its furthest from your motor controller. Also make sure you have the appropriate tools/supplies to splice into your power and ground when installing the joystick. For power I didn't have to splice but rather put an eye terminal on the wire and connected it right to the ignition switch on engine 1. Just make sure you have no stray strands of wire touching other terminals on the ignition switch. I did my first attempt and the motor began to fire as soon as I turned the key to the on position, not start position. Oops!
One other suggestion if in salt water I would scuff up their trilux finish and brush paint it with Pacifica Plus. The trilux and primer peeled on mine after one season and I had to prep and repaint.

thanks! i'm thinking of mounting at an angle coming straight back and down from boat on that center angled piece between my outboards. thoughts? inside that is a locker and will have easy access to work and feed wires to engine room.
