Sick of being stranded, possibly another vapor lock issue

Dumb question....do you let the engine idle for a few minutes before you shut down? This might give things a few minutes to cool down and stablize...??

Reporting on the mods I mentioned in my 8-19-10 post, switched hoses, ran and had no problems with re-starting. Even failed to follow our standard 5 min cooldown before shut off idle period. No re-start problems. I suspect our real problem was the fuel pump.

Our standard shut down on the water is to idle for 5 minutes, and run the blower for an additional 3-5 minutes if possible. When ready to get going, run blower for 3-5 minutes, start engine, then pull anchor. Off we go. We have run many times this summer in 90 degrees or higher, and have had no further problems. The sound of 8 cylinders working together at the turn of the key anywhere and anytime is music to the ears.

I have the same boat you do. I lost a lot of time on the water this summer because of vapor lock. What my mechanic did to fix the problem was install a lift assist pump. This is actually another fuel pump in line with the original one. It is installed before the water separator. I got it back last weekend and took it out 4 times and no problems. However the temps were in the mid 80's, compared the upper 90's we were seeing. This was one of 3 fixes mercruiser has for this issue and the most expensive. Hopefully the issue is gone.
