Traded out of my gas Silverado for the baby Duramax today! 2 of our 3 vehicles are now oil burners, might go for the Yukon/Tahoe with the same 3.0L if I like this engine in the truck and complete our gas engine purge. Now if only I could find a diesel lawn tractor and snowblower :)

Anyone have to repaint their garage after owning a diesel vehicle? Our white walls turned grey after two years of starting and stopping one diesel powered car. Never again.

Since 2008/2009 all light-duty and passenger diesel vehicles have particulate filters (aka DPF) mandated by the EPA. This means no black smoke/soot. DEF was mandated shortly afterwards to reduce NOx emissions.

I’ve driven a diesel pickup (2 different ones) for 10 years, always garaged. The walls remain white as does the other car parked in the same garage.

Any chance your vehicle had a malfunctioning DPF?

Will do!

I seldom tow, occasionally a small dirt bike/atv trailer to move things around. If this damn pandemic ever ends I typically drive 30-35k miles a year for work. I don’t like rentals, but also want a truck as my daily, so this little duramax should give me good fuel economy once we get back to “normal”

so far I have about 250 miles of mixed city/hwy driving and I’m averaging 29mpg in 2WD mode. Not bad!

I do tow with mine, 12’ enclosed work trailer that is fully loaded with ladders and power washing equipment. Right now it has four snowblowers. You can’t even feel the trailer back there. With the right brake setting and the transmission set for towing it does great.

You guys all have the “real” trucks :)

mine is just a baby 1500. My previous 1500 was the double cab but I went with the crew on this one. We have a 3 year old and his feet were basically on the center console in the double. The crew back seat is bigger than most SUVs

downside of course is the bed, I didn’t want full cab and long bed because of where I have to park when on the road but I don’t think I’ll miss it. I can count on one hand the times I took advantage of the longer bed over the last 3 years.

most will never go back to gas if they buy a diesel truck, they'll pull. i have had several ford super duty's . currently 2019 f250 crew cab long wheel base. 75mph 18-18.5mpg, 60-65mph 20-20.5 mpg.
currently buying a diesel boat and selling my gasser. can' wait till summer.
there is no soot on my tail pipes at all. they have a came along way since my 7.3
Happy New Year

Update on my first 1000 miles. DEF tank is still full, 28.5mpg lifetime average, 35.6mpg best average on a 160 mile trip.

probably 60/40 city versus highway driving. I've detected two regens so far but may have gone through more. They're only noticeable if you're going slow as the exhaust note changes

Absolutely love this engine so far.

My Roomba is diesel powered. DEF tank is filled with eyedropper.... 12000 square feet of floor cleaning per gallon! Plus that fresh outdoorsy truckstop smell in the house....

Please post your build blueprints! Did you go aftermarket into the RC micro engine world for a power plant? CO isn’t a problem if you open a window at grade and one at elevation.

what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right?

Does the diesel do better with the pet hair?

Will the diesel suck up a curtain and keep running? I can’t stand the electric vacuum with those wimpy rubber belts. I bet this diesel is shaft driven.

joe is going to make you change to battery power anyway

I’d bet it can pivot on thick carpet without having to bump the throttle one bit ;)
