Hi, just thought i'd post some pics of my 74 SRV 220 that i'm redoing. I seem to have misplaced the first p0ictures i took of her so here's some of what i could find. I'm redoing the stringers and floor this year and doing the transom next year. The old floor was ok but the foam was soaked. The edges of the floor were dry so i left a ledge for the new floor. Stringers are made out of 2 pieces of 1/2" glued together with piece of 3/4" glued on top. They are wraped in 3 layers of 1.5oz fiberglass to seal them up and then tabbed to the hull using 3 layers of 18oz. They are very strong. I then ran 3 other stringers to the other stringers to give it even more support. Originally it had the stringers just sitting the foam not even attached to the hull. The floor i'm using 3/4" sealed with polyurethane and then glued and screwed in place. Then i'll fill the diff in height around the edges and glass them in. Should be very strong. I've also added some in floor storage. I have enough room to store 3 bumpers on each side. What i'm doing is adding little things that i like that i've seen on other boats and incorporating them into mine. Call me sick but this is the most fun i've had working on a project so far. Working with wood and fiberglass seems easier to me than working with steel.:smt001
Thanks,
Jeramie

Wow! You're really starting over. Sounds like a lot of work, but if you have the time and money, it can make a rewarding mountain to climb. Keep us posted.

Truth be told i really only have about $350 in the floor and stringers. I did a lot of shopping around and took advantage of deals when i saw them. Just making it my boat. I'm going to try and update the thread every time i make some progress. Mid May is my goal for completion. Or at least enough to be able to work on it while i enjoy it. I think i may be hooked for life. 22 years old with a 22' boat. It's going to be a good summer. The plan is to have this boat for 5-7 years and then move onto a 80's 25-30 Sea Ray weekender on maybe an older 25-32 Chris Craft. Again, it would have to be something that needs work. I just get more satisfaction out doing the work myself rather than buying something that is new and then i'd be afraid to use it.

Here's some pics of what i did tonight. Finished up the floor, sprayed foam around edges to fill the gap, and started mocking up the swim platform. I used great stuff to fill the diff in the floor, its polyurethane based so the polyester won't eat it up. Tomorrow i'll level it off and get ready to do some more fiberglassing. Hopefully that will be the end of the glassing till next year. I figured out that i'll need some 2" stainless flat stock to make some brackets for swim platform. I really like the way the platform adds to the boat. It's pretty big, 22"lx80" which tapers to 71"w. I plan on making it pretty strong as i can see it getting some serious use.

Here's a pic of the room i built to work in, it's 32x16x10.

It's that special ingredient that makes an adhesion that's 3x stronger than normal. If my calculations are correct it's time to do some fiberglassing in an enclosed area. Goal for today is to get the floor glassed in and the cuddy enclosed. Pics will be posted tonight.

Jeramie,

That's pretty awesome that you have somewhere to do all this work. Is that a pole barn? or are you renting space?

Looking good! The transome say it all "Quality Time"!

Fortunately my parents just built a 80x40 pole barn last fall so that helps. We haven't poured cement or anything yet, just waiting for it warm up and dry up. We put down some black plastic and sheets of wood to park on for the winter. I'm just happy that i have understanding parents. I'm 22 years old and thankfully still live at home. If i had to rent a space or was on my own none of this would be happening.

Today fiberglassed the floor in and widened up the opening for the porthole windows. The glass wasn't dry enough yet to do any more work on the deck so i did some grinding. Now that i got the floor in i feel i'm on the home stretch. Hopefully tomorrow the floor will be dry and i can get the cuddy closed up. I can't wait for Friday, PAYDAY! I'm going to buy the cheaper GLM manifolds and risers and then take them to get surfaced just for peice of mind. Uneven surfaces seem to be a problem that i read the most about with them. Then i'll probably get some 2" stainless flat stock to make my swim platform mounts. Interior wise i need to make my side panels and pick up some vinyl to cover it all in. Mid May is the goal for water.

Pretty agressive timetable. Being married and having kids, I'd have no way of devoting that much time. Not complaining, really. :)

Being that work is very slow rite now i have a ton of time on my hands. It's a double edged sword. Alot of time to work on the boat but no work=no money. I've actually been hitting the back roads in the jeep and picking up cans. I usually walk more than i drive, plus i get some exercise. I'm also going to start putting some stuff on craigslist to drum up some funds. Gotta fed the addiction some how. Hopefully i get hired back at the marina i work at and dump this job. Even paying for health insurance i would come out ahead in the end. I had the month of feburary off and looks like i'll have half of april off. Thats over a $800 i'll lose in the 2 weeks. If i have to pay $150 a month i still come out ahead.
