I have a 2006 52 Sea Ray Sedan Bridge and the shower is draining very slowly. Drives wife crazy!! Is it safe to use Draino or similar product? Sump works fine. I can see shower drain and plastic line to sump but would be nearly impossible to get to the elbow to take it apart to clean. Thanks.

I don't know if your sump is similar to my layout, but the main sump has sinks and showers going to it. I use a wet dry vac to "suck" everything through every few months. I run really hot water from the shower and faucets to help.

Can you get the shower drain off from inside the shower. most showers have a chrome plate at the bottom of the shower, with two screw. If you take that plate off you can maybe see what is causing the problem. most time its hair.Hope this helps. You can also try what the other member said with hot water and a shop vac

Use a shop vac and suck the hair backwards. It is nasty so this is your warning. I don't think you need draino.

Does anyone know how you remove the chrome shower drain cover without breaking it? There are no visible screws.

I spray hot water in it and it cleans out the line. Need to do it about once a month. I have a hoses to wash the boat that is connected to both hot and cold water. The shower sump fills with white grunge after I flush the line to the sump. I then spray the sump down with hot water to dissolve the grunge.
Never tried drano but sounds like a lot less work.

So if their is no screws to be found, then the chrome top screws into the bottom part of the drain. Can you post a picture of the drain, because if their is alot of hair down in the drain, the best way to clean that is to get access.Maybe you could contact a marinemax service in your area, and see if they know how the drain works. I had the same problem with my boat this pass summer and i had to access the top of the drain to clean out the hair. Problem solved.Good luck

After you figure out how to remove the hair, install a round piece of fiberglass window screen under the floor drain cover. When the drain begins to run slowly, unscrew the drain cover and replace the screen with a new one. This fixes the problem almost forever. We've been doing this for years and have never had the lid off of the bilge sump which is very difficult to reach. Also pour a citric bilge cleaner down the drains monthly to keep things fresh.

I think Sea Ray didn't do well with their shower drain systems. I've had several and none of them had a removable drain cover and I've always had problems with drainage. I've tried all of the different versions of clearing them and I believe the drains are just inadequate. I spent about six weeks using a friends 35' Silverton Aft Cabin after I sold my Sea Ray 370 AC and the shower was wonderful. Great water pressure, great drainage and it made me realize that in some cases a lesser boat has advantages that we should expect from our favorite brand but we don't get. Sometimes the little things start to add up. Mark

I haven't had a problem on this boat but on my 330 I had frequent problems with the shower drain. The problem was the drain line between the sump and the overboard discharge. I would remove the hose from the sump end and use a shore water hose to blow it out with as much pressure as shore water had.

The water pump in the sump would sometimes get clogged up with hair and gunk. A good disassembly and scrubbing would keep it clean for a year or more.

My drain cover doesn't have screws and seems near impossible to remove from the top side. Bottom side isn't very accessible. Pour design. I have been reading about baking sod/vinager/hot water combo and plan to try that today. Sump is clean and works fine. Will keep you posted.

Mine began to drain slowly this summer. Got a small bucket of very hot water, poured it into the shower pan and before it could go down the drain I hit the drain with a regular household toilet plunger and it blew all the crap onto the sump. Cleaned out the sump which is easily accessible in my boat and it has drained great ever since.

So has anyone figured out how to get the drain screen out? I would like to replace mine. I do not have access to the. Bottom side so any help would be very appreciated.

I keep one of these 'pick up tools' around for cleaning out drains.....works great for reaching into the pipe and grabbing the clog to remove it.....

UPDATE: Please to report that Baking Soda, Vinegar & Boiling Water worked great. Just took one time but I went ahead and did it 3 times. I put 1/2 cup baking soda on drain, pour 1/2 cup vinegar over it and mixed then added boiling water. I let it sit for about 10 minutes and then ran hot shower for few minutes.

I would also like to know how to get the screen off and replace. I have a floor drain screen that has a one inch hole in it and would like to replace.

Great suggestions!
will try vinegar, baking soda & hot water after using the flexible "grabber" tool to grab gunk that may be in the line.

On mine, the perforated cover is just an insert. I used needle nose pliers. I inserted both points & turned. Might work with fuel/water key.

Are you sure it does not unscrew? I use the scanner wrench that came with my boat for opening clean outs in the bilge. The little studs on the wrench are the same size as the shower drain holes. Since it is an adjustable wrench it fits perfectly and provides the arm needed to lossen the drain cover without putting a lot of torque on the fitting.
