This is a pic of one of my 2 props (Amberjack 290 w/ inboards). Is this something I should get repaired, or not worth the trouble/expense for such small damage?

Repair asap... Out-of-balance props can lead to very expensive repairs.

I agree, repair asap.

Thats not going to be a very expensive repair once you get it to a good shop. Might as well have them tuned up while your at it.

But it needs to be repaired, and in addition to wear and tear on the other running gear, you'll likely have vibrations, loose speed and burn more fuel.

Thanks everyone, wasn't expecting such a unified response so I appreciate it, will definitely get it serviced. Any thought on what it would cost to have it pulled (boat is in the yard for the winter) and repaired?

Repair costs vary quite a bit depending on your location. East and west coasts are more expensive than portions of the Great Lakes. Where is the boat located? That damage would be considered somewhat trivial so not that expensive to fix. Still you are looking at several hundred dollars in west Michigan, and it definitely needs to be corrected.

I struck something while docking my boat at haul-out last fall. It was a split second bump into forward then neutral that resulted in a definite "bang" and yep, one blade was damaged on the edge as seen on the photo.

I took both props to a PropScan facility in Barrie Ontario where they scanned them in. My Stb prop was still perfect after 10yrs from last being balanced. This one was perfect other than the leading edge of this one blade. The PropScan report bar graph clearly showed the damage to this blade. The cost of repairing this prop then buffing both props like new was just under $500 Canadian. The "after" scan bar graph report showed the prop as being back within tolerances again. I thought this was a very reasonable price for the work performed!

Running a prop with any damage could definitely cause havoc on your shaft bearing or even your strut support due to the drive-line vibration it would cause. I obviously agree with the others in getting the prop put back to specs.

Where did you go in Barrie?
There is a propeller facility in Owen Sound, United Propeller & Machine.

Found a reasonable quote. How hard are these to pull to bring to the shop?

Your shop should have a loaner puller. Follow the directions and be sure to leave the shaft nut threaded on the end of the shaft so the prop doesn't come flying off when it releases on the tapered shaft.

Actually it was United Propeller & Machine in Orillia 10 Brammer Drive. (Just remembered going thru Barrie to get there!). They did a nice job!

Last time I went to Wolverine Props (Propscan Shop) in Lincoln Park Michigan (just South of Detroit) but they have since closed. Not sure if it had anything to do with Michigan's shutdowns or not... Sad. Ron Jacobs the owner sure knew his prop science. Wouldn't be able to get over the border now anyway. That sucks!
