Took the Sorrento on a 30 mile or so round trip up the coast to do some fishing. She ran great, no problems while I was out there. However when I got back I heard a whining sound like a very low super charger. Figured i would start in the rear as I couldn't really tell where it was coming from. Just took out the gear oil plug and found a bit of metal shavings. It was full of fluid however it smells rather burnt. Don't remember if I remember it smelling this way when changing it prior.

Should add that no water was present in gear oil, it was a slightly black/green color and smelled off a bit. Checked engine alignment and it seemed fine, the tool slid in easily and could be turned with 2-3 fingers. Slid in and out pretty easily as well.

I get that same thing when I change fluid at end of season, always have a little bit of filings there. Out drive oil smells BAD to begin with, so hard to say if smell is any indicator, but I've never smelled anything i though was ~burnt~ fluid.

Yeah maybe burnt isn't the right word, but definitely smelled aweful.
