I have just bought a 250 searay, The shore power when connected only runs the fridge. stove and out lets, all the cabin lights still must remain of battery power,as well as the stereo, and pumps, can I change this, so every thing runs off shore power. Thanks rick

do you have an automatic battery charger system on your boat?

Sappington, The concept used on my 270DA is the shorepower running a 3 stage battery charging system that keeps the battery banks charged. It runs all the time the shore power is connected which is 24/7 most of the year. The lights, stereo and pumps run off selected battery banks which are normaly at full charge. The advantage of this is that when the shore power is diconnected, such as between ports, the lights, stereo and pumps are still provided power. This is a great setup for us. This is our 6th season with the 270DA and this power system meets our needs very well.

This is the way it normally is, and probably the best way. You want the cabin lights, stereo, and pumps to run off of the batteries so that they run whether at the dock, or away from it.
If your boat doesn't have a built in battery charger, you may want to invest in one. That way when you are at the dock and hookep up to electric you can run all of your 12 volt stuff and the charger will keep the batteries charged up.
The added benefit is that batteries that are kept fully charged generally last longer than ones that are repeatedly depleted and re-charged.
