Shore cord anti theft

And you're positive you hooked it back up last time ???

I'd lean towards a prank at this point. Do your neighbors know about the overheat saga?

Otherwise ...... and I hate to say it ....... could it be a senior moment

Nope, no brain fart. About a week ago I mentioned that buddy mechanic was going take it down river see if overheating? He swears he left it coiled on pier. I asked him today. He confirmed.

I took two hole 1/2 pipe strips and screw the strips to the dock with three different size screw heads, They were all different size nut head.
I put the straps 1' apart
My dock neighbor had his cord stolen and my was still there.

Zip tie it in a few places. Someone stealing it would probably be too lazy to cut them to remove the cord. Zip ties will slow a theft down and will move on to an easier item.

I have a dock neighbor that wrapped his with 1/4" chain and locked it with a small lock. Impossible to get the plugs through the chain.

Security through obscurity. I like it !

Buy something like this: adjustable. Wrap around cord and boat railing. cinch down so that large plug wont go through. This is an adjustable bike lock for

I had 2 30a cords stolen off my dock last year.

Since then I've been using a Masterlock Python lock. Its a one way cinch. Insert the cable end through the body and you can make it any length you want - the cable only feeds one way to make it tighter.

I plugged in the shore cords to the pedestal, then wrapped the lock cable around the pedestal and cords. The head of the cord is too big to fit in any gap between the pedestal and the cable. The pedestal is the short type, with the base tapering as you go up, then flaring out. I keep a set of 10 ft cables at the dock , and a separate set of 50 ft. cables stowed aboard for travel.

This is the lock.

Water not deep at pier. Fished around with hook, nothing, stole. HEADS UP… i got thru Amazon a black cord $60. Took to boat yesterday. The end that plugs into boat is too long so the ring on cord wont reach the fitting on boat, generic name. Returned, then i got lucky today, Marinco 25’ came on sale today, $60, $40 off, delivery tomorrow.

Did you forget to order a lock for it??????:D

If you want to lock up a shore power cable, it seems like any combination lock or padlock would do. The shackle will fit around the cord, and the ends won't go through the shackle. Just need to mount an eye bolt on the dock to run the shackle through, or run a cable or chain around something.

Our marinas shore power pedestals and most I have seen, have a cover that goes over the cords and are lockable.

I say everybody above has missed one perfect solution. One thing that will stop someone from taking anything off of a boat again. New Zealand fence charger. Just wrap a thin wire around the cord and plug in. Then sit back and wait for the fun.

I got that red and black steel zip tie thing somebody upthread showed.
I picked up the same locks. I wonder how well the little combo lock will hold up in the salt, but cable should be easy to cut if the lock fails.

So i ordered a cheapo non-marico cord.from amazon, did not fit boat fitting. It was too long when plugged into boat, the ring wasnt even close to screwing on the threads on boat. Returned. Then i got lucky. Marinco normally $106 went on sale for $60, was on that like stink on whatever. Fit perfect. FYI not all shore cords are the same.
