Okay, I've done a search and read every post on this subject but can't seem to find the answers I'm looking for. I have a 2001 SD 190 and want install sonar using a shoot through transducer. Does anyone know the best location for this? Everything I can see in the bilge area seems to have a gelcoat skin and I'm not even sure how the hull is constructed in order to know if I can even use a shoot through tranducer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Swab

I don't know the answer to your question, but I do know that during install you want to make sure you don't have any bubbles or anything else between the transducer and the hull. It has to be a clean installation.

I also can't give you an answer other than to suggest you call SR customer service. In addition to making sure that any epoxy bed you make is bubble free, you want to place the transducer where it will sit at the proper angle (based on transducer spec and hull shape), and ONLY shooting through fiberglass. SR may not be able to tell you the best place for your particular transducer, but they can tell you areas to avoid because of coring/reinforcement.

That's my real question, I guess I should have thought more before posting, I'm familiar with the actual install proceedure as I have done it on several other boats, I just don't know how the hull is constructed in the area(s) that the transducer should be mounted. I'll give SR a call and see what they say. Thanks

Just got off the phone with customer service at SR and I was informed that the entire bilge area is "skinned" and my only option is a transom mount transducer as they don't recommend a through hull transducer either (which I wouldn't do anyway). Thanks for the input everyone.

Thats funny, my 185 fish/ski came with a "shoot through hull" ducer straight from Sea Ray. Its been acting kinda crazy lately though. I was in about 3.5 fow the other day and it was consistently giving me good 40 foot readings...just another thing to go wrong with the boat! Once I was out of the shallow water it worked fine though.

I don't know how yours looks, but I have a 2001 260 SeaRay and was told by them, to mount it off to the right of the bilge pump. Mount it off the keel and a shoot through the hull transducer would be fine for me. Best bet is to call SeaRay 865 971-6250, they are more than happy to help and they have drawings they will look at to tell you. Have your HIN with you to help them to find a drawing for your boat.
