Shinnecock Inlet and Canal Info/Questions

Keith I have done this now with 2 boats and plenty of water. Only prob was my antennas on this boat hit the bridge . below I have a photo of the only spot I touched and that's because I didn't follow the bouy's as you can see in the pic I backed up and corrected my route this is my track from last year and I followed it 2 weeks ago so you should be good. If the lochs are open apply throttle as needed to stay in control. Enjoy the trip.View attachment 41684View attachment 41685

Thanks Havana. I was originally thinking staying inside from the west. Your showing running it outside and coming in? I guess I need to correct myself I should have said Moriches not Shinnecock

Oh, can't speak of Moriches that area just scares the heck out of me. I like the ocean nice and deep!!!

I went through Moriches inlet at high tide and 1.5hr falling...The channel is very narrow, but if you watch the markers you'll be in deep water.

Thanks Pal. Someone had said the north channel there was dredged. Any confirmation on that?

Most big boat go around the south side of bird island and come back up headed north towards coast guard station, once you get to red 24 head East in the channel. It gets a little dicey right there as well but at high tide it should not be an issue

having gone through 3rd week in july and again 8/13, then back east to west yesterday 8/17 I can say if you play connect the dots and really hug the buoys there is water.
I draft 3' and we went through 1 hour after high tide. from 15 to 27 is tight, 26.27 is worst shallow spot . keep red on right going east, green on left. I talked to towboatUS and all markers are on point.

Good to know that the north side is passable (17-24). I had not dared to go thru that since Sandy. As you say 26 and 27 is the worst part of the channel, always was. At low tide it's a disaster for a 3ft draft.
