In the cabin of my 270 aj on the port side I have my breakers cubby hole and microwave.
On top of those I gave a nice shelf for cups, paper towels, etc. the shelf has a very small lip that will barely prevent something from rolling off it. So needless to say when I hit a few bumps allow the way my glasses, cops, etc wind up on floor. I want to install a rail of some sort to prevent these items winding up on the floor. Any suggestions?
thx as always!

they make small wood spindle rails for the top of cupboards, probably available at home depot in pine or oak.

They are called a 'Fiddle Rail." I think I saw them in the Defender catalog. You can get them in teak.

On a different line of suggesting... We have basically the same shelf as you - with the 1"-ish lip. Given it's construction, that shelf was never really designed for 'rolly' or 'top heavy' things. We only put things on that shelf that don't roll around - they might slide a bit, but they never fly off. Basically, things with a harder, flat bottom to them and not top heavy. Anything that could roll off, we store more securely in other areas. For drinking cups, coffee mugs and wine glasses (polycarbonate), we use stackable ones and store them in the areas to the left/right of the microwave, behind a door. You can certainly build something and there's nothing wrong with going that route, but maybe simply reallocating your storage use would serve the same purpose and cost you nothing.

at RV stores they have these little cream colored rails with rubber ends that lengthen as you twist them apart. i use them in areas like you are describing to heighten a shelf's lip.
