Just heard on another forum that one of the sheds at Georgetown MD has collapsed damaging many boats.

This is becoming a big problem with all the snow fall.

"E" dock shed at Bobay has totally collapsed and "D" dock shed has started to collapse as of this evening. My slip is on E dock but my boat is on the hard for the winter. This is going to be a major cleanup with millions of dollars worth of damage. My in-laws, aunt and uncle's and many friends' boats are somewhere under the wreckage. Many people will miss a boating season because of this. If I ever get launched I don't even have a slip to go back to.

Tolchester also had a shed collapse.

I am on D dock at BoBay and I just talked to Ken and he said that D is holding up and they plan to move the boats tomorrow morning. I am keeping my fingers crossed but I am sick over the people that are on E dock

Brett- I was pretty sure that was your boat at the end of "D" dock. Glad to hear that it should hold til they get the boats out. I'll definitely be down this weekend to check it out.

I am so nervous, i want to drive down there right now but there is nothing that i can do. How did you find out? My cell number is 610-304-5953 if you hear anything else. Thanks for the post, I would not have known anything about it otherwise.

How tough can it be to get up there and push the snow off? Millions of dollars tough?

I just arrived at BoBay, my boat is under F Dock. As previously mentioned E is totally collapsed, can't see well enough yet but many boats are sitting pretty low in the water. It looks like the end of D Dock is partially collapsed (the end near the travelift bay). Again still too dark to see much. Very quiet down here right now, the Service Bay Doors are open but don't see anyone milling about yet. Additionally the carport on G dock is collapsed as well but the main roof appears ok. The beams holding the carport up on F dock are bending pretty good though, not parking under there right now. I will post pics when it's light enough. Sorry this is my first post but a google search alerted me to the roof collapse mentioned in this thread so I thought I'd share what I know.

My thoughts exactly, it would seem they would be pushing it off prior to a major build up being allowed. Maybe a dozen guys with wide snow shovels going up every hour or so and just pushing it down and over the edge.

Seems logical to me...but I said, "logical."

You got to understand, the past two snow storms are the worst storms in many, many years. So far we have had over 72 inches of snow up here, and it came in the form of two back to back blizzards. The snow was coming hard and fast, and with the major winds it would not be safe to have anyone attempt to get on top these things. They are not made to withstand this type of weather. Hell there has already been roofs collapsed on houses and even a fire station up here. I have lived in Maryland for most of my life and I have never seen anything like this. It is no one’s fault and there is not much people can do, but it is not for the lack of effort.

Whaler23 - I need pictures!

I'm stuck at work and just made the dreaded call to my winter renter that his 540 Carver is possibly ruined...

Sorry guys I just made it back home, computer died at the marina and I forgot my charger. Here's the link to the pics. Quality Time, the Carver is one of two that is afloat as far as I could see, but damaged pretty badly on topsides. For those of you familiar with this marina high tide was around 8 am. As the tide came in the boats tried to go back up but didn't. The groaning and cracking of the shed/timbers metal, etc was very eerie. I was the only one around this early. That and the diesel on the water added that awful smell to a sad scene indeed. I feel for those folks on E Dock. WIth few exceptions every boat was used most weekends and in immaculate condition. Nobody deserves this.

Holy Fuc* is all that I can say. The 55' Ocean is my aunt and uncles. The 53' Hatt was immaculate as was many of the boats that were under there.

My heart goes out to all of you guys having to go through this. I'm literally sick to my stomach seeing these pictures.

I really hate to see this kind of carnage....from the pictures, the slips still standing appear to have hardly any bracing between them. That is a lot of square feet of roof with what looks like minimal weight support.

Good Afternoon, I just got back to the office. I went down to BBYH this morning, and it was just sad and overwheming. I am one very lucky guy, when the sheds fell they moved toward the other end of the dock and I have only very minor damage to the bow rail and probably some gelcoat damage. It is just to sad to look at the carnage and destruction of so many people's happy times. I am sure that in time it may all work out, and we can be grateful that nobody was injured in this mishap. Tonight however, a fine bottle of scotch will await my return to the house.
