Hi, I am in the middle of installing a TV and now I am looking for an antenna. We do have cable at our slip but would like to get some over the air station when traveling. We are 30 - 40 miles away from NYC. (Great south Bay) so I need a Good Antenna I am looking at the Shakespeare 2030 21" Omni-Directional TV Antenna. I am thinking of mounting it on the front railing. Has anyone installed this type antenna ( large ) on the railing and what did you use to clamp it on. I guess I would like to remove it when not in use. My reg Radio antenna is on the Starboard side and don't want to disturb it.
Thanks for any pics or suggestions. John G

Don't know if this applies, but don't forget about the digital switch over.

Hi, From what I read the digital signal may increase once there is no Analog signal. So it should get only better. JG

I used to have a Shakespeare and thought it was a POS. I purchased a Naval antenna and have been very happy with it. Even though I've got sat I still have the tv in the master hooked up to it for local channels- great HD reception on the digital channels. They're more $$ than Shakespeare, but you get what you pay for. Click on "yacht systems" on their homepage, and check out the PR-411. You can see it on the port side of the arch in my sig pic.

If you are looking for a small powered antenna that you do not need to mount on an arch, take a look at the Philips MANT940. I bought one at WalMart for about $40 and it picked up 22 channels out of Atlanta which is about 50 miles away using an insignia digital converter box. It has an ac transformer for a power supply, but you could easily cut the transformer off and wire direct to dc if needed. It came with a built in mount and can easily attach to a rail. I would change the hardware a bit though. I haven't figured out where I am mounting it yet but will take a photo when done. I don't care for the saucer look of most of the marine units and you can't beat the price...
