I went down to Marine Max to finalize the spring launch and they left out shaft zincs. They claim Searay does not recommend this anymore. Is this true and what is the reason? Dont the shafts need corrosion protection?

That is news to me
I always put two zinc's on each shaft -
usually have a diver do it that specializes in this

A lot posted here about this subject. Here's one to get you started. http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17142&highlight=shaft+anodes
My boat was in salt when I bought it and had shaft zincs.
I looked into it as I had never seen shaft zincs on a sea ray here in fresh water. I elected not to put zincs on the shafts as I was going to be moving it here to fresh water imediately. It seams that the issue with shaft zincs is that they can loosen as they erode away and slide down the shaft to the strut and cause cutlas bearing problems. That said, the zincs that were on my shafts at purchase were tight and about 50% used up, which means they were definitely doing what they were supposed to be doing.
I don't know enough about zincs and salt water to offer anything else besides to say to call boat zincs on the phone.
Talk directly to them, They were extemely helpful. If you go with the shaft zincs, ask them how and where to put them. I seem to recall them saying they should be a specific distance forward of the strut. or maybe someone else here knows this and can offer it.
They just sent me new magnesium hull and tab anodes for my fresh water application.
