shaft turns but prop doesn''t

Out riding the other day ,crusing at 3500 RPM . boat seamed to slow ,engine eamed to rev up,could it be the part that protects the prop & shaft.

You could have spun your prop hub. Easiest way to check is either scratch a line, or use a waterproof marker and mark a line across your hub and prop. Take it for a spin and attempt to recreate the conditions. Bring the boat back and check your marks. If they do not line up, you have a spun hub.

Next guess would be a coupler going. (pray its the prop hub)

If you're on a trailer, just take the prop off and inspect the hub for damage.
