shade for back of boat...

yours looks good though.. why change?

Thanks, but at the end of the day they are boat hooks. I would like something a bit more professional and polished. $565 seems much more reasonable. The black sticks also match the boat/canvas.

If you guys want or need to see a certain detail of the blacksticks I can post pics. I thought I left them on the boat over winter but I had them at home. Let me know
Sure can you take a pic of the top of the stick and how did you clip it to the canvas...I see D rings and just a spring clip on the Stick rope on a few

Looks awesome....that's exactly what I want to do ….thanks for sharing a pic.

I have to drill holes for the rod holders... I want to put them where yours are,.... is there anything to look for underneath... I haven't looked yet. I see the fuel hose is pretty close.... any other obstructions underneath?

I had the yard do it, was not an issue according to them. I have the 90 degree rod holders forward (for the grill), and the 45 degree aft for the sun fly poles. I highly recommend the blacksticks- light weight, strong, but can also flex in the breeze. Easy to store as they pull apart.

I've been following this thread since this too is a project I'd like to tackle someday. My original plan was to simply buy SS tubing and a couple fittings from Defender Marine and use my existing rod holders. DIY SS 1" poles can be done for $150 +/- but they won't be folding/extendable. And not sexy carbon fiber :) Hmmm....

Mystic.... If you get a chance would you be able to measure from the top of the rod holder to the tip of the blackstick…. You have what looks like the perfect angle down from the hard top... I am in no hurry right now..... Thanks

When the Blackstick is together and in the holder, the top of the stick to the front of the holder is 58". The total Blackstick length when together is 66.5". There is an eye on top of the stick for the line that is not included in that overall length.

Hope this helps. That shade was one of the best improvements I made to the boat, especially here in Florida and while in the Bahamas.

Awesome.... thank-you. I will measure to see if I come up with the same measurement .... appreciate it!!

Something you might consider: https://www.ttopcovers.com/store/accessories/item/telescoping-poles-2

I have the ultimate boat shade kit which includes these telescoping aluminum poles. They’re great. The whole shade setup is great—we’ve been using for 4 yours and have no complaints.

Hey Kevin, any pricing yet for a 2002 340DA?

Well I am making some progress.I got the rod holders in.... that deck was over 2” thick on the port side and 1-1/4 on the starboard in pic.... this was not an easy job at a 45 deg angle and being 3 hours from the house where all my tools are....the only guy that won was the local hardware store :)
Problem now is the black stick manufacture emailed me today to tell me she can’t take my order....she can’t keep up with OEM orders and won’t take any other orders..... So I have decided to make my own...turns out I have a machine shop :) and my son in law runs a plastic distribution company.... it’s like we were meant to make shade sticks.
Had my boat neighbor over on Sunday as he does canvas in his basement as a side hustle..... so I might have this done in a few weeks

Just use two sleeved stainless tubes. Drill the for the spring clip so that they are collapsible. The rest of the tackle is pretty straight forward. The only problem I have with using 1" SS as my outer is that it was a little loose in the rod holder. To accomodate for this we added thick wall tubing with a 1" ID to build it to a 1.25" OD. I was thinking about using 1.5"OD but this thinner one has not been a problem. It also provides a cushioning.

You can see the top tackle in my earlier post (http://clubsearay.com/index.php?threads/shade-for-back-of-boat.80132/page-2#post-1122528)
