Service transmission on 2004 420 DA /w 6CTA inboards

Recommendations on oil type and quantity, and aftermarket filters and gasket for screen?
Any enlightened advice mush appreciated. Also, where to order zincs?

What transmission do you have? On my 2007 44 DA I have a ZF280-IV, I assume yours is the same.

The details are in the manual.

If yours is the same, the recommended oil is SAE 30W (I used Shell Rotella) and I took out just over 7 quarts but only added 6 (they were slightly overfull before I started).

The "filter" is just a screen and magnet that is on the plug, they can be cleaned and re-installed. I am guessing this past Sunday was the first time my filter/screen was ever off but the screen was clean and the magnet on the plug was easily wiped clean. Its a 32 MM socket, torque to 120 ft.lbs.

I did not replace the copper gasket for the filter.

Double check your transmission model, it's on the manufacturers plate on the tranny. 280A's are not v-drives. Oil capacities are different between 280 IV's and 280A's

my3sons is correct on the "-A" vs "-IV" designation yours is a "-IV" if indeed you have 280's, and yes there is a difference in capacity. The capacity on mine was on the name plate as 6 dm3 (a.k.a. liters) which is 6.34 quarts.
