Hello..

I ordered the serpentine belt as detailed in the Mercury part express web site using engine serial number as reference and the belt received matches the part number (57-861757) but is +/-6 inch short compared to the exisiting part.

Other than the tensioner, is their another part that can be adjusted to give more slack on the belt? or a different belt is in order? Is the site part number wrong?

The engine is a 2001, 5.0 EFI BIII, RWC.

Comments / suggestions?

Thank for the help..

The belts on my old AJ were the same way. I had 5.0 EFI engines in her and both belts were adjusted all the way out. They stretch over time. I bought the correct belts and it was tough to get them on at first. Rest assured though, they will go on. Crank the adjuster all the way in and the tensioner all the way back. It should fit, but will be tight at first.

Thanks, I will try once again, but the new belt is almost 6 inches too short, even with the tensioner thats above power steering pump all the way down(totaly loose).
Did you also have to shift any device such as the alternator, P/S pump, water pump?? I would think that the belt would eventually strecht but no more than +/-1".

The best and easiest way to make sure you have the right belt is to compare part numbers right off the belt's it's self, Are they the same?
Also there should be a belt routing on a sticker on the front of the engine someplace.

I am not sure if this is your engine serial number, But it's as close to yours as I could find. Take a look at all the numbers of 17. http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...nbr=220&bdesc=Intake+Manifold+And+Front+Cover

Here is some of the general information out of the parts bulletin (98-1) that may or may not affect you.

Serpentine Belts, Pulleys and Kits.
Models
All V6 and V8 Sterndrive Engines with a Serpentine Belt.
All V8 Ski and Inboard Engines with a Serpentine Belt.
Change
The Power Steering pump pulley material and diameter are changing. The easiest way to
tell them apart is by using a magnet near the outer diameter of the pulley.
Before ordering any serpentine belt parts, refer to the chart on the reverse side. Part lists
and the Quicksilver Accessories Guide will be revised to show these changes in the future.
V6 and V8 305/350 cid engines:
Old pulleys were plastic and 4-3/4 in. (121 mm) in diameter. The new pulley will be metal
and 5-3/4 in. (146 mm) in diameter. The plastic power steering pump pulley is going to
become NLA. For a replacement pulley for an engine with a plastic pulley, order a Belt/Pulley
Kit. A new Belt Kit will be required when installing a Closed Cooling Kit on V6 and V8 305/350
cid Sterndrive engines with the metal 5-3/4 in. (146 mm) pulley.

BOAT TECH..
Thanks...

I failed to mentioned that the part # on the belt currently installed has worn off since (this would have been the easiest way to get the correct part).

I did call mercs 800 number provided engine serial# and came back with the part I ordered/received. They did mentioned about the P/S pulley being changed from 4.75 to 5.75 with a new metal. I will check this weekend what size pulley and also measure the exact lenght of the belt currently in use.
