Serious problem on Lake Cumberland

No I don't go to Cumberland but I think many of our members do go there or slip there. This sounds like a real serious problem that may have no quick fix. I just wonder long term what this will do to the lake. :smt017 I can't imagine that property owners or marina owners are too happy about it.

I live in Lexington KY, and boat in Cumberland a few times a year. It is about 2.5 hours away from us, compared to our other lakes that take about an hour to get to.

It looks to be about 48 feet below normal seasonal levels, with a possible addition of water if things look good in the spring. But not back to normal for *seven* years.

I think it will not only hurt business on Cumberland itself, but also cause problems on surrounding lakes accommodating the increase in visitors.

one of the things I have heard is that the "high risk" term is a result of post Katrina environment. Altough this is serious and will have an impact on the economy. The lake will still be 35,000 acres until the repairs are completed.

look on the bright side...all the fisherman can go around and look at the structure when the water is down and come back and fish some great spots they never new were there!

I have a friend and coworker who keeps his 40-footer on LC and is currently building a house overlooking the lake. Much to my surprise, he is not that riled up about this. He is at the deep end of the lake.

The shallow end is having some serious problems.

I don't know what to believe about the 50% to 100% fish kill projections. That would be smelly.

How long does it take to lower the water another 30' and then refill the lake when the work is done? When will the project be completed?

Those are some great pictures. Real bad news, but at the same time for those with docks that have been meaning to do repares and clean up stumps and trash it's a great time to get it done on dry land.

Those were my thoughts exactly. Hopefully they're smart enough to repair the bridges, ramps, pilings and dock while they have the opportunity.
