Separate fuel pump and water fuel separator on genny?

My 07 260DA has a water fuel separator and small fuel pump before the gas line enters the Kohler 5ecd's own fuel filter and onboard fuel pump.

is this a Sea Ray factory setup?

My friend's Monterey has no additional loop like this.

the small outboard fuel pump recently failed so I bypassed these extras and the genny is running great.

seems like this extra stuff is overkill as we live in Vegas and only purchase land-based gas in a very dry climate

Mine has a separate filter and pump. I had assumed this was the standard arrangement?

Sadly I only know this because I'm 83% sure I have a failing fuel pump at the moment...

You may want to bypass the additional fuel pump and run the fuel line directly to the generator. At least to see if the additional one is the problem. I had enough fuel line to easily do this.

it proved the generator's onboard pump was working fine and got me up and running until I decide whether the extra water fuel separator is really necessary.

After some research, I've learned it is a electric fuel cutoff valve before the fuel water separator and not a fuel pump.

Still don't know why Sea Ray thinks it was important to install one whereas many high end boat manufacturers did not.

Either way, I'm going to bypass it and the separator for now.

It sounds like you are theorizing that the pump exists only to push thru the filter? Get rid of filter and don't need a pump? I think I'd rather have the filter. Pumps are $60. Cheap insurance?

The external filter and solenoid fuel cutoff valve are standard equipment and indicative of the premium nature of Sea Ray.
The cutoff valve is used instead of a anti siphon valve which is known to be restrictive. The solenoid fuel valve has a manual bypass knob that can open the valve if the solenoid becomes stuck in the closed position.
