The cabin has a lot of small carpeted areas. Some of the carpet is on the floor but there are other areas like below the cushions on the sides under the dinette.

How do you clean these areas?

I will likely hire a steam cleaning company to come to our boat but just wanted to see if there is a better way.

Our plan is to rent a steam cleaner from our local grocery store. Split the cost with our friends and do both boats at the same time. My Admiral is pretty picky when it comes to things like this.

We use a house carpet cleaner (Paid $300 for it) with brush attachment. It does a good job and the carpet looks new for a couple of week. By the end of the season it is dirty again in traffic areas.

I just bought, but haven't tried yet a carpet extractor "pre-treatment" from DP.

I have a couple spots in the carpet from the PO that I've never been able to get out. I'm hoping this stuff does the trick. I then will use our Bissell carpet cleaner to clean it out.

We use the bissel green machine and it works great. It's the little hand held machine with the heater. It's around $90 and has lasted for us over 6 years now. Great little machine. We use the bissel pretreat first on the stains.

+1 on the Little green clean machine, works great with hot water and shampoo. Works nice on the cushions also. I always rinse with plain water and suck it out afterwards, keeps from attracting new dirt.

:smt038Yep, Bissle little green works great, nice and small.

Pres, it depends on your needs, many of these suggestions work for routine cleaning. When we got the 270 the steps and main landing area were badly stained. The PO used similar home equipment with little success. I had already begun to get quotes for replacement when I contacted a Langenwalter cleaning and spot removal franchise. They use a steam type cleaning system and have several options for different stains. The carpets look good enough to forget replacement. I also had every cushion cleaned on both sides as well as wall cushions. The 13 years of gray gunk visible in the sight glass was gross. The carpet and upholstery felt so much better.

IMHO the others suggestions above work for cleaning maintenance but if you have deep stains and dirt get a pro. MM

MM,

Thanks.

I have a truck mounted steam cleaner company coming this next week.

After this ‘major’ I may do the minor with a little green machine that I learned about in this thread.

I think that dry cleaning technology has been approved in a ship. The safety of th cabin can be assured with certified dry cleaning and sanitizing treatment that can effectively clean and remove dirt in your cabin.

We have used the "Rug Doctor" rental for a once a season cleaning, specifically using the upholstery attachment for the entire interior and then using the green machine for spot cleaning throughout the season.

I just had Sears do my 286. It was pretty dirty. He did a great job on the entire interior and all the cushions for $110.00

We did the grocery store rental unit last year and it worked out great. The only problem was I had to find a unit that had a hose attachment as the basic machines were too big to get into the cabin.

I was down on the boat today using our "little green machine" on the carpet outside of the carpet saver..... It works pretty good for small jobs.
