Seeing pink/red coming through white gelcoat??

Over the weekend I picked up a 92 220 BR (White and Blue) and proceeded to start working on compounding out the slight oxidation from top to bottom with Meguiars #49.....

I started on the port side working from the bow to stearn taking off all snaps, cleats and bow rails so that I get every inch... anyway the white was coming out REAL GOOD till I got to the back of the bow rail to corner of the windshield area..... after about a min I notice that there is a pink/reddish color bleeding through the gelcoat that I had not seen before...:huh: I have no idea where it came or is coming from.... There is no way I am through the gelcoat b/c I was not on it more than a minute.... It was getting late in the evening so I called it quits till today..... I went out this evening to look over the boat an below the rub rail and the blue section I found a spot that I DID NOT compound and it has the same color there but just a small area.... My concern it to compound it and discolor the whole area like I am starting to have up above......
Any ideas on what and why I am getting that funky color bleed through?...:smt021 If so where do I start..... Do I continue to compoud it to see if it starts to lift out or do I go right to wet sanding....??

Any :smt100 would be great... Oh BTW I took some up close pics but you can't see anything in them but it's there!!! :smt009

Here is the boat the red circles are where I see the pink/red coming through... I have not gotten past the 220 emblem...?? Who knows what I will find there..................

Could be a previously repaired area.
 
You only need to post in one area.
 
This is an old boat. How much time you spent compounding it is not relevent. How much time did others lean on that area of the gelcoat? No one can answer that question. If you are through it you need to respray it. There may be another reason, but your logic is flawed.

You are correct, who knows how may times it had been compounded.... I also realize that if it is though it needs to be resprayed... My "other reason" as you called is this....What if somehow a cleaner or wax that the previous owner used may have improperly been cleaned off and the gelcoat absorbed it given gelcoat is porous and is showing up.... Just a thought, that is why wetsanding even came to mind......
I will continue to work on and clean the boat and see if other areas are the same way if it ends up needing sprayed it ends up needing to be sprayed... I was only looking to see if anyone had any better ideas than me on why I am seeing what I am seeing....

i doubt that been stained by cleaning ect. from your discretion, sounds like the gell coat is getting thin. if you can find a hidden spot inside the hull, you will likely find the glass is a pink color when not painted or finished.

I can get under the seats in the bow where I loosened the bow rail (I just don't remember the color) lol....Also I can get under the console to see up front as well to see if there is any difference......

Ok here is the new twist..... I took it out of the garage and it is a bright sunny day and the color can next to not be seen @all..... :smt021 I guess it is only in lower light situations that it becomes more visible. (Otherwise outside it looks like new)... yikes....:smt101 hahaha

After spending a more nights working on the boat the pink is gone :thumbsup:
All signs point to the "red" pin stripe that I removed, (it was faded to more pink than red....) There must have been bleed through dye left on the gelcoat which I couldn't see, and during the process of compounding it heated up and spread; which then becoming visible under florescent lighting.....:huh:
Anyway.... It is gone and I am happy!! :lol: I just about have 1/2 of the compounding done and it's starting to really look good.....:grin:
 
I have noticed after something has been waxed that repaired areas show up at first a little more. Then shortly thereafter they blend back in, it is typically in low light that you can see them after being waxed. Every Sea Ray I have owned has had something repaired straight from the factory, usually around a fitting or near the rub rail. My boats have all been in covered slips, in bright sun light the areas don't show up. But they tend to blend back in over time and the contrast is minimal.
