We've been looking for the secret compartment/s on our 2007 260DA. We have noticed that the mirror in the bathroom has a hinge along the top edge; however, the mirror doesn't lift up. Does anyone have any ideas as to why there would be a hinge along the top edge and how it might open.

I tried to open mine as well, but no luck. I wondered the same thing. I hope someone knows....

The mirror is held down by a snap, the same snap as what is on your cockpit carpet. Grab the bottom of the mirror and try to peel it off the wall and after a good bit of effort it will break free.

Is there anything behind it? I noticed the hinge also and wondered if there was storage behind it. It seemed to take too much to lift so I left it alone.

I have the same thing in my 290...In fact I pull on it every once in awhile, as if it might open up and there would be space of value in there.

If you pull hard enough, you'll find an open cavern. Off to the right is a room, to the left is a gnome ....:thumbsup::smt043:lol:

But, we're not going to show you pic of it, you have to find it yourself.

Seriously? You mean that SR went through all of the time and expense of putting hinges and snaps on something that opens up to expose a wall behind it?

And yes, the closet is behind the mirror. But there is no opening in the back of the closet. I must be missing something...

I hope VtSeaRay is right. Maybe the room to the right is the second stateroom with the full Jacuzzi tub and a walk in closet.

The mirror is hinged on the top and velcro holds the bottom in place. I believe it is installed that way so it stays in place but can be lifted up to get to the back side of it to clean/wipe the shower wall (like after taking a shower). It takes a real hard tug at the bottom to get the velcro to break free and I don't recommend doing it very often because there is always the risk of breaking it.

Nothing behind it. I've looked.

Thanks for saving me a trip to the marina! I've wondered as well but from looking under the helm I came to conclusion there is no room behind it but only access to helm stuff maybe. Not even that? Oh well.

The mirror is afixed to the shower wall this way because the shower wall flexes too much to allow the mirror to be glued to the wall. The inevitable flexing of the boat and it's interior wall while underway would cause the mirror to break over time. The codes that are followed by boat manufacturers require that mirrors be semi-permanently attached (held in place by mechanical fastners rather than gravity like our mirrors in our houses) in such a way that it will not fall off the wall during rough seas. The piano hinge and snaps is Sea Ray's way of doing it.
By the way, on our boat we use the back of the mirror to hide some emergency cash and store the boat registration docs.

Has anyone checked out the mirror on a 240DA?

I want to thru mount a flat panel tv bracket and won't be at the marina for a while to check it out.

Thanks
John

I don't know seems like an easy way to mount the mirror in a fashion that creates hidden fasteners, and you can still pull the mirror to replace it if necessary...

Thanks to everyone who responded. I won't bother trying to lift it and risk breaking the mirror.
I tried it, didn't break it.

Takes a good stiff pull on each of the lower corners. There were 2 stiff plastic velcro like dots on each of the lower corners.

Cleaning behind and stashing documents here seams like the only useful things we 260DA owners can do with this spot.

we're just not as cool as the 280's. I wish we had that compartment.
