i have begun to notice a few sun spots on the seats out back, is their something i can put on them to prevent this(something that acts as sun screen for the seats). I also noticed a stain, is there something i can use to get this out?

When you say "sun spots", could they be from where suntan-lotioned people have been sitting?

For the stain, ultimately it will depend on what caused it. But, start with light cleaners (like mentioned above) and work your way up. Something like Softscrub would be one of the last choices. You can probably find a lot of information/recommendations in previous threads.

There's a decent chance that a few days in the sun will take care of the stain all by itself.

Has anyone used the Mr Clean magic erasers? I cleaned my vinyl with a vinyl cleaner I bought at West marine then tried a little water & magic ersaer followed by wiring with a soft rag and the amount of dirt that came off was amazing! I still have a yellow spot both on the cockpit seat and dinette seat that must have been sunscreen. These i have not been able to get off.

Also, NEVER lay your damp cockpit carpet over your seats to dry. I made this mistake and have a black stain on two cockpit seats...

I would probably try using the The Magic Eraser as the step right before I tried sandpaper. Yes, there's a little sarcastic humor in that:smt001

But, seriously, the Eraser is abrasive.

If you've really got some ground-in dirt, try: a good all-purpose cleaner with a short-bristled brush, plenty of rinse water and lot's of clean rags.

The sandblaster didn't work so I was looking for other options!

But really, the erasers don't seem to be that abrasive. The manufacturer even tells you it's OK for use on leather.

I've got one floating around the house, here. I'll admit it doesn't really feel all that rough. But, one thing I've learned over the years is that there is no such thing as "magic". Something has to be doing the cleaning. I'd just play it safe and don't make a habit of using it and try to save it as your last resort. I can tell you this: I've cleaned a lot of dirty, grimy boats and it's extremely rare that the method above doesn't work.

They work great. You do have to use them with care and wash the area with water right after use. If they don't take the stain or mark off with little to no pressure be very careful they will eat through the seat material. I know because I tested them on my BAYLINER runabout before using them on the searay of course.

Make sure you apply a UV protectant after using one, as the eraser erases everything.

My dealer used Amazing Roll off the get some pretty impressive stains out of our seats (unfortunately they waited until after they delivered the boat) including ink. I have a bottle that I have used on the fiberglass with great success, but I haven't had to use it on the vinyl yet.

+1 on 303.

I get it here:
http://www.properboatcare.com/303aepr.html

$59.99 per gallon. Use coupon code DAYAFTER at checkout, get 15% off, free shipping, plus $10 credit on next order (Coupon is good until Jan 31, 2010).

Forgot to mention...they sell the 303 vinyl cleaner as well...

I'll give it a try and keep the erasers for tougher jobs. Thank you!

Magic eraser will ruin your seats, it takes off the prtective coating. Dobson..those stains are most likely from suntan lotion on your guests.

thanks everyone and like katricol said the magic eraser, erases everything. if they are from sunscreen can you remove those?

I am a big fan of Amazing Roll Off for all boat surfaces after using boat soap and also use it on cars for oil spots etc.

I buy that stuff by the gallon! Just remember that it will take the wax off your hull.

I even dilute it with a 4:1 solution of Water:Roll Off for most things.

That's interesting, considereing it is activated by water. I will have to try diluting that.

Anyone who hasn't used Amazing Roll Off, it is very important to thoroughly rinse it off of the surfaces it is used on.

Tim, I thought it left some type of "wax-like" protection? I could be wrong, though.

+10 303 protectant
+1 to magic eraser as last resort
But which is worse-- eraser or soft-scrub? Isn't soft scrub an abrasive with bleach?
I used the eraser once...then the 303 has kept everything so I don't need it again.
