My Amberjack has the tele flex cable helm with the hydraulic assist rack inside the transom and engine mounted power steering pump.

The play in the steering could be measured in feet :smt101 I have checked everything there is no adjustment.

Has anyone replaced this system with a Seastar hydraulic. Any comments?

I did it years ago, but it was on an '87 340DA. Those boats had Teleflex cable steering, but no power assist. We made the change to install an autopilot slaved to a Loran for long distance navigation because the only mechanical AP's at the time would not acccept NMEA inputs.

The SeaStar system is as close to a bullet proof design and system as you will find on boats. If it will work and the $ makes sense, you won't be disappointed.
